Iran's Ahmadinejad survives 'assassination attempt'

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has survived an attack on his convoy in western Iran, media reports from the region say.

The reports say the blast took place in the city of Hamedan where the president had gone to deliver a speech.

Mr Ahmadinejad was unhurt and went ahead as planned with his speech, which was broadcast live on state TV.

According to Arab TV reports, a number of people were wounded in the attack.

Iranian authorities have denied reports that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's presidential motorcade came under grenade attack.

Khabar Online, an Iranian website, had earlier reported on Wednesday that a homemade grenade exploded near the president's convoy in western Iran, but he was unhurt.

The website said the explosion happened as Ahmadinejad was on his way to address a crowd and that one person had been arrested

... had hired some assassins to target him earlier this week. I'm guessing that is probably one reason why that other press outlet jumped on this story, even if it wasn't true.
