Malloy Wins Democratic Primary for Conn. Governor.

Former Stamford Mayor Dan Malloy has defeated businessman Ned Lamont in the Democratic primary for Connecticut governor, overcoming a better-known and better-funded opponent in the final weeks of the campaign.

Malloy on Tuesday narrowly bested Lamont after a campaign that turned negative, with the candidates trading accusations about each other's records.

3. Unlikely.

A political outsider takes two high-profile lumps, it's a safe bet any future electoral adventures will be dead on delivery. CT's Democratic party has a deep bench though, deeper than most states, that Ned's been allowed to skip ahead of twice for willingness to finance his own campaigns; inability to win though makes him a lame duck.

Don't worry, we've got plenty of good liberal Democrats to run. Democrats that can win. I'm already excited for the beating we're going to put on Lieberman in 2012.

4. No. It makes him a two-time loser unlikely to get a nomination.

6. Adlai Stevens anyone?

7. You mean Adlai Stevenson.

There is a bit of a difference there. Stevenson served in a number of electoral and appointed roles before, between and after his presidential defeats, most notably Governor of Illinois and US Representative to the UN (and he's generally considered one of best US diplomats of the 20th century for it.) Sec. of State Clinton would be an excellent modern comparison to Stevenson.

Ned Lamont has never won an election or held public office in his life in either an elected or appointed capacity. If he wants another bite at the apple, he probably needs to solicit and commit to serving in an appointed position at the statewide level for the next two years...or he needs to run for something further down the ballot and win.

life and is glad he didn't get the nom cuz if he'd won in the general he'd have an uphill job as CT governor...there's something a little, er, unserious about his "dabbling" in politics...

I spent a lot of hours volunteering for his campaign in 06 only to find out that he wouldn't have liked being a Senator anyway. How pissy is that?

He didn't deserve to win in this one...
