TALLAHASSEE - An already bitter Republican race for governor turned increasingly nasty Tuesday as multimillionaire Rick Scott accused Attorney General Bill McCollum of abusing his office after a McCollum supporter filed a lawsuit over a Jacksonville-based business Scott helped found.
In a heated news conference, Scott lashed out at a series of allegations against Solantic, a group of 34 health clinics Scott co-founded in 2001. Scott, still a majority shareholder in the company, said the emerging accusations were the result of a smear campaign launched by McCollum, once a front-runner who has recently fallen behind Scott in the polls.

But Scott also refused to release a video deposition he gave in a separate civil case six days before entering the GOP primary for governor. The latest blowup between the GOP rivals was prompted in part by a lawsuit filed by a McCollum contributor seeking to force Collier County Reporting to release the deposition.
