Danish naval team sent to 'take on' Greenpeace ship
Special forces to confront vessel targeting 'dangerous' deep sea oil drilling sites in wake of BP oil rig disaster

A special forces naval team has been sent to confront a Greenpeace ship which is on a mission to target "dangerous" deep sea oil drilling sites, the environmental group claimed yesterday.

The Esperanza left London last week to highlight problems with oil that go "far beyond" the disaster at BP's Deepwater Horizon rig in the Gulf of Mexico.

Greenpeace has not revealed which of 10 deep water drilling locations, including Brazil, the Arctic, Nigeria and the Atlantic west of Shetland, it plans to target but has pledged to confront the industry head-on over its "reckless" pursuit of oil.

The group said the Danish government had dispatched a special forces navy team on the Faroe Islands to "take on" its ship, believing it was heading for the area.

It's not like a left leaning country like Denmark is neo-fascists and instead if Green Peace would stop breaking the law then you wouldn't see a country like Denmark sending ships to enforce the law. The point is that their efforts (which require burning fuel) help the environment through their actions much more than it hurts. How can that point be missed by any competent person?

for ships and vehicles. Not sure if they have completed the move, but THAT is effort I can appreciate.

I imagine GP might have issues finding bio fuels in ports throughout the world though. I just think their efforts have a far greater impact that offsets their carbon footprint, if you know what I mean.

I don't like the rhetoric - "target", "take on" - but some independent observation/video of remote deep water platforms would be good to see. However, I'm not sure how many of the most dangerous (mal)practices would be visible from a nearby ship, except maybe active dumping and spilling. The BP platform probably looked perfectly normal until it blew...
