SAN FRANCISCO (BNO NEWS) -- Federal authorities are investigating a phone threat made against an American Airlines plane at San Francisco International Airport on Thursday.

Greg Soule, a spokesman for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), said it was aware of an alleged threat made via phone against American Airlines flight 24, shortly before it was due to take off en-route to New York City's John F. Kennedy Airport.

" Out of an abundance of caution, TSA requested the plane be moved to a remote location," Soule said. "Passengers are being deplaned and will be interviewed and rescreened. The aircraft will be swept by local law enforcement."

A threat made against an American Airlines plane preparing to take off from San Francisco International Airport on Thursday is prompting authorities to tell the passengers to deplane and be rescreened, the Transportation Security Administration said.

American Airlines Flight 24, which was scheduled to fly to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, was moved to a remote location at the San Francisco airport, at the TSA's request, the TSA said.

Passengers appear to have started leaving the plane. A man identifying himself as a passenger told CNN's Rick Sanchez by phone that passengers have been calm, and that local police are taking them off six at a time

American Airlines spokesman Tim Smith said the threat was phoned into local police. He said there were no hostages, but the TSA has moved the plane to a remote tarmac.

There were 163 passengers and 11 crew members aboard the Boeing 767, Smith said. No injuries were reported.

At this point, I figure a small child could cause this because crying is a safety hazard.

Ah, I see it was a phoned in threat. Well Hell, we can stop planes by phoning in threats. Who knew?

I mean, if I were going to blow something up with a whole lot of people, I know I'd call and tell them about it before hand. Maybe even leave my number while I'm at it. I wonder if that works anywhere in the world. I could stop air traffic in Dubai for example.

12. Whoa...Tuesday last week I flew from SFO to NYC/JFK! Lucky by a week!

I wouldn't want to be stuck on a grounded plane for 3 hours just because of a "hijacking threat". So apparently they had to isolate the plane but confine all the passengers for their own safety? Nowhere else on the airport site was safe enough? At least there were a couple arrests.
