Farm employment picked up steam in Fresno County last month, but those gains weren’t enough to offset a slide in government employment that made the county’s unemployment rate inch up in July.

Fresno County’s unemployment rate was 16.2% last month, according to figures released today by the state Employment Development Department. That’s up from 15.9% in June. A year ago, in July 2009, the county’s unemployment rate was 14.8%.

Also, from The Sacramento Bee, an updated interactive graphic that shows monthly changes in California unemployment by county. Again, Imperial County (of the Prop. 8 case) leads the state at more than 30% official unemployment.
