XinhuaBEIJING, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- China's People's Liberation Army is to send 1,000 tents and other emergency equipment to Pakistan's armed forces to aid the country's flood relief work, the Ministry of National Defense announced Friday.
The relief materials, including 69 sets of machines such as generators, sludge-cleaning and water purification devices, would be airlifted to Pakistan "in days," said a statement released by the ministry.
On Thursday, China sent relief goods worth 50 million yuan (7.4 million U.S. dollars) to Pakistan, including 1,200 tents, 30 tonnes of rations, 23,800 blankets, 1,000 generators as well as medicines, bottled water and water purification equipment.
An estimated 54.4 million Pakistanis have been affected by torrential rains and floods since late July, and more than 2,000 people have died.
