Press DemocratThe egg industry, including a major Sonoma County producer, is seeking to reassure consumers about food safety in the midst of voluntary recalls and the investigation into whether hundreds of people have been sickened by salmonella from eggs raised on two companies' Iowa-based farms.
"We are and have been doing everything in our power to prevent a problem of this nature," said Arnie Riebli, a partner in Petaluma's Sunrise Farms, which produces a million eggs a day.
Protective measures include enclosed housing facilities to protect laying hens from contact with rodents or wild birds that can carry salmonella. There are regular visits by a veterinarian and frequent testing for the bacteria, he said.

The last three cartons of eggs that I've purchased locally have all been from this farm, although they were sold under different brand names. So I'm glad to see them make a statement about this.
I think their plant number was 1292.
