Johnson Controls to layoff 885 Michigan employees, shifting sun visor prod
http://www.freep.com/news/statewire/sw95327_20040329.htm

HOLLAND, Mich. (AP) -- Automotive supplier Johnson Controls Inc. says it is transferring sun visor production from its plants here and in Glasgow, Ky. to a Mexican factory, resulting in 885 layoffs in Michigan.

The layoffs will be at the Southview component plant in Holland. The affected workers will be a mix of salaried and hourly employees, company officials said Monday.

Officials were unable to immediately say how many jobs will be lost at the Glasgow plant, though it will be fewer than in Holland, spokesman Bill Dawson said.

Murphy met Monday with Holland employees to announce the decision to consolidate sun visor manufacturing at the company's plant in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico.

1. Holland is a GOP town...this wont bode well for Bu$h at all
A lot of these people probly voted for the sorry sack of shit. (Holland is a Dutch Reformed super Republican town that has people like Jim Bakker speak at their churches, and bans foreign films that are too racy at their film festivals...they roll up the sidewalks at 7 pm.)
This will not go over well there.
Good. Bush tax cuts for the wealthy corporations will get the blame.
People shot themselves in their own foot.

12. Filtered, I believe.
They 'vet' everything.

In a related story, adaptations of classics such as Wind in the Willows are slowly being dumbed down. See the recent Salon article for details.

13. They had a fine arts theater once, they censored
a film called Antonia's Line, the 1996 Academy Award winning Foreign Film, (which is the best film I ever saw in my whole life).
Even the Holland Sentinel damned the theater for banning it.
I went out and bought tons of copies of it on purpose.
The film made a mockery of religious extremism in small towns.
Evidently it hit too close to home for some of Holland's residents. ahem.

11. Not in a million years. Not this state. Not this time.
I rarely see a */Cheney bumper sticker. Funny, though- the people in front of me who do have one always drive like they own the road.
