Brewer condemns report to UN mentioning Ariz. law
Source: Associated Press

PHOENIX (AP) -- Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer demanded Friday that a reference to the state's controversial immigration law be removed from a State Department report to the United Nations' human rights commissioner.

The U.S. included its legal challenge to the law on a list of ways the federal government is protecting human rights.

In a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Brewer says it is "downright offensive" that a state law would be included in the report, which was drafted as part of a UN review of human rights in all member nations every four years.

"The idea of our own American government submitting the duly enacted laws of a state of the United States to 'review' by the United Nations is internationalism run amok and unconstitutional," Brewer wrote.

4. Typical teabagger misrepresentation

The State Dept. is not submitting Arizona's law to anybody for approval. They're just making a reference to it in a report.

In fact, the U.N. has no power to "review" or "approve" any law passed by member states.

5. if she is so proud of the law, why should she care who comments on it?
does she have the same reaction when amnesty international comments on sheriff joe?

(note to jan: if you do really evil, hateful, stupid stuff, the whole world DOES get to comment on it. if you find it offensive, stop doing it)

8. Hey, Brewer - 'duly enacted laws' doesn't mean they aren't racist.
I mean, is she really that stupid? 'Duly enacted' doesn't mean moral or even legal.

15. Actually, a number of German legal experts at the time disputed that
But they tended to lose their jobs, get the crap kicked out of them, or disappear into camps as "enemies of the state"

So when the Nazis claimed that what they were doing was legal, the public generally didn't hear contrary views
