Murkowski Concedes Senate Race in Alaska
Edited on Tue Aug-31-10 09:44 PM by Gman

ANCHORAGE — Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska conceded late Tuesday in her Republican primary race to Joe Miller, a lawyer from Fairbanks backed by Tea Party activists, Sarah Palin and other conservatives.

What is she, the third GOP incumbent Senator the teabaggers have picked off?

6. Be careful what you wish for
The tea partiers have only been successful in pretty solidly red states, the Repuke in Utah is essentially guaranteed victory this fall, and I'd say that Miller is looking reasonably strong for this fall, since Alaska tends Rethug, more often than not.

We're likely to see a few other tea party types win in the fall, Rand Paul would not surprise me if he won.

13. Where did I say I was rooting for either one?
I'm just trying to make a realistic assessment of what may very well happen in a couple of months. Alaska and Kentucky are red states more often than not, and I think it's just inevitable that tea party types will win some elective offices in a year that's not going to be great for Democratic candidates.

Disagree with me on my assessment, based on whatever you're read or what you know, but simply attacking the messenger is not terribly persuasive.

8. Add Sharron Angle to the list. Reid can't crack 50% in any poll, and that's generally considered
bad news for an incumbent.

14. I considered mentioning her
but she's a loose cannon on the deck, and I can't see her fooling too many people about that. Besides, Nevada is hurting hard, and dumping Harry would mean the loss of some powerful seniority that's probably vital to a state that has proportionally more Federal land than any of the other lower 48 states.

2. Not if Scott McAdams has anything to do with it
Edited on Tue Aug-31-10 09:58 PM by liskddksil
He's down only down 8 in a head-to-head with Miller, and he hasn't even begun to advertise. Plus Miller's calling medicare and social security unconstitutional won't play well with Senior voters. This is a race to win.

3. I'd like to think so.
But I can't overestimate the intelligence of a state that would elect Palin.

10. Miller is going to be hard to beat.
He is an Ivy League-educated lawyer, West Point graduate and decorated Gulf War veteran and he hasn't advertised much yet either. Most observers in Alaska believe that his narrow eight point lead reflects his low name recognition level and nothing more than that. That should all change now. And he should be able to raise enough money to run a strong campaign.

15. Also, he's going to have Palin's full support behind him now
Anyone who thinks Palin will be a drag on him needs to realize that Miller didn't gain real momentum againt Murkowski until Palin lined up behind him.

It's obvious that Palin, despite quitting her job, still has enough support in Alaska that she's not going to be a drag on his election hopes.

5. Second for the tea party
Bennett from Utah was the other one, but Specter also got picked off on our side. Of course, it could be fairly argued that he was never truly Democratic, anyway.

9. Actually this is
better for Scott McAdams. He polls much better against Miller rather than against Murkowski.

11. The THREE sitting senators that have lost their primaries are...
Arlen Specter (R turned D - PA)
Bennett (R-UT)
Murkowski (R-AK)

------------------------

Love the fact that Murkowski lost!

1) Now next year Mark Begich (D-AK) the junior senator will become the senior senator (with only two years under his belt, I betcha he was surprised tonight)

2) If/when Scott McAdams (D-AK) wins in November then Alaska will have TWO DEMOCRATIC SENATORS and Alaska will be a BLUE STATE

12. Sound the alarm! Man the trenches! We have a battle on our hands
Put up or shut time, McAdams has a chance to beat this fraud if progressives are willing to step up the plate and send this wannabe packing.

This guy is a text book example of poser, we can beat this wacko if we pull together.
