New York mosque pits John Cusack vs. Fox News
Edited on Wed Sep-01-10 05:09 AM by Turborama
Source: Reuters

Politically minded actor John Cusack has picked a fight with Fox News, and both of them have dealt the "death" card from the bottom of the deck. Cusack started the war of words when he tweeted to his 209,000 followers -- in all capital letters no less: "I am for a satanic death cult center at Fox News HQ and outside the offices of Dick Armey and Newt Gingrich -- and all the GOP welfare freaks."

Cusack's tweet was a response to a follower who asked whether he supported the construction of the so-called Ground Zero Mosque. Cusack does. Vehemently.

Fox News' response came by way of an article at Foxnews.com by Jo Piazza, who apparently didn't see much humor in Cusack's sarcasm. Piazza writes a hard-news article about Cusack's caustic tweet that even includes experts who warn that his words are dangerous. Says one expert: "His provocative tweets could easily incite a rabid fan to commit violent acts against Fox News Headquarters and others he names." And another says: "Fans could not only be influenced because of their devotion to Cusack, the man, but also because of their love for one of the characters he plays." Still another says: "John Cusack is taking his fame too seriously. He is having delusions and his anger toward Fox News may get him arrested!"

The Fox News reporter even goes so far as to suggest that Cusack's behavior is kind of like that of a ... serial killer?" Coincidentally, Cusack has just been signed to play Edgar Allen Poe in 'The Raven,' a movie about a serial killer who uses Poe's stories as inspiration for his killing spree," writes Piazza.

Comment on the title: It's not a "mosque", but both Reuters and AP seem to be instant that it is.

This is how English language paper in Indonesia 'The Jakarta Globe' is reporting it...

Cusack and Fox in a War of Words

September 01, 2010

Actor John Cusack has picked a fight with Fox News.

Cusack started the war of words when he tweeted to his 209,000 followers: “I am for a satanic death cult center at Fox News HQ and outside the offices of Dick Armey and Newt Gingrich — and all the GOP welfare freaks.”

Cusack’s tweet was a response to a follower who asked whether he supported the construction of the so-called Ground Zero Mosque.

A retaliatory article written by a Fox contributor and posted on Foxnews.com blasted Cusack and warned that the tweet could incite the actor’s rabid fans into committing acts of violence against the news channel.

62. They're liars and they know it
And they don't give a damn. It's all about hijacking the political discourse and turning the tables on the opposition by using arguments that gives the listener a feeling of disorientation.

I sincerely believe that it's not about winning an argument any more, not in US politics. It's much more effective to just blurt out arguments that are so far off any standard that the audience don't know which way is up anymore.

That's why people should'nt confront Fox in this manner. It just gives them a reason to play the victim card.

The fact that people are still discussing this so-called ground zero mosque, is proof at how good the right wing are at hijacking the agenda. They know damn well that any time someone tries to argue back with a rational answer rooted in any sort of reality, their fear-based, emotionally charged arguments will be useless.

that fox news printed such a retaliation article attacking him. It is like they are taking warning shots at him. "Experts" saying he is inciting violence, comparing him to a serial killer, etc.

Yeah, I agree the accusations themselves are laughable. But the vilification as a process is scary.

It's a classic defense.

If you replace all references to "Cusack" or his "Rabid Fans" with "FOX" and their "Blind Followers", and Piazza's article fits almost perfectly, except for the "get him arrested" part...

Stupid like a fox. John Cusack's fan's are intelligent people who actually know how to form thoughts all on their own. Fox news followers, on the other hand...
I can see it now... Cusack... serial killer...must be stopped...what to do, what to do...
Fox knows how to make a non-story importance every time. I have to give them credit for that at least. I am a fan of John Cusack, and wouldn't have known a thing about this story if it weren't for ...can you guess... FAUX NEWS
Makes one wonder.

In the event something does happen and it can be traced back to the RW nutters, Fox will make a big deal about the "incident" and very little Fox Noise about who the person really turned out to be.

It is inconceivable how these people have a license to broadcast news.

47. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
Cusack's "rabid fans"???? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Acts of violence against the Fox News Channel??? Talk about irony.

And I love how the parts the ACTOR PLAYS or signed up to PLAY are somehow relevant in the real world. Ronnie Raygun was NOT a real cowboy/war hero. Charlton Heston was not really Moses. Fred Thomson was indeed a lawyer and even a Senator... but he is not a real human being. :eyes:

Why can't Repugs distinguish between reality and theatre/movies/ dog & pony shows?????

BTW, Cusack owes me $3.99 for my rental of that piece of crap "2012".... I want those minutes of my life back! But I'll take the money instead.

58. Well they should have
been proud to be in like company. Mad I don't think so. And if they think that one of his followers are going to do something to someone at Faux HQ or Dick Armey or old ass Newt, Then they are looking at the wrong crowd of folks. And John doesn't have to wish anything on any of those guys because they already got it coming. See they are going to have problems with one of their own. All it is going to take is a matter of time before the tea baggers come out of their tea bag induced coma and find out they have been really getting played. If you think they are mad now wait until the truth slaps them in the face and is undeniable. That will strike the very core of their being and belief, and then they will have the problems they so deserve. Because no one can make a person catch hell like one of their own.

I love this guy, proud of him for fighting back. With my limited resources and in my limited way, I'm not going to sit back and tolerate a GOP tidal wave in this election. Will you join Cusack and me in the fight?

61. Last night I watched Cradle Will Rock with John Cusack and it
was fabulous. About the great depression etc. It was fantastic, and the parallels to right now are astounding. The rich people being afraid of the unions and trying to bust them, it was eerie. Especially the mural being taken down, and people seeing commies under every bed. You've got to see it to really appreciate it.

64. Wow, what a lot of whining and playing the victim, on Fox's part.
"Ooh, we're so persecuted!" Scawy! Crybabies.

80. Remember Fox News Won the Right to Lie in Court!
Fox was sued because they lied to the public. Fox won the right to lie. So why is anyone surprised?
