Strickland commutes death row inmate's sentence to life without parole
Source: The Columbus Dispatch

Thursday, September 2, 2010 02:35 PM

Gov. Ted Strickland spared Kevin Keith's life today, concluding that it is "far more likely" he is a murderer than he is not, but there are too many "real and unanswered questions" to allow him to be executed.

"I have decided...to commute Mr. Keith's sentence to life in prison without the possibility of parole," Strickland said in a statement. "Should further evidence justify my doing so, I am prepared to review this matter again for possible further action."

In making the decision, Strickland rejected an 8-0 recommendation from the Ohio Parole Board that Keith should be executed.

9. absolutely, davidinalameda! one reason i really choked up
about this is that the governor is up for election and might be having difficulty, yet he still did this, knowing, as you say, it "probably won't be a popular decision."

may others take his example!!

thanks!
