A teen who admitted spraying anti-Jewish slogans in southwest Calgary is the first person in the city to be convicted of a hate crime, according to police.

Anti-Semitic graffiti and swastikas were spray-painted on a Holocaust memorial and a synagogue in Pump Hill and Woodbine in November 2009 — crimes captured by video surveillance cameras.

A 17-year-old, who cannot be named, was caught in Winnipeg in March on a Canada-wide warrant and taken back to Calgary.

Good for Canada. But there was a far far worse incident in the US just a couple days back in the wake of the Park51 Islamic cultural center controversy. That incident involved some teens who harassed Muslim worshipers at a mosque.

I forgot to mention that one of those brats fired a shot outside the mosque too. Way way more threatening. But generally i think that annoying or harassing or assaulting people or anything done against people is worse than property damage.
