Former FBI man implicated in CIA abuse
Source: AP

WASHINGTON — A former CIA officer accused of revving an electric drill near the head of an imprisoned terror suspect has returned to U.S. intelligence as a contractor, training CIA operatives after leaving the agency, The Associated Press has learned.

The CIA officer wielded the bitless drill and an unloaded handgun — unauthorized interrogation techniques — to menace suspected USS Cole bombing plotter Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri inside a secret CIA prison in Poland in late 2002 and early 2003, according to several former intelligence officials and a review by the CIA's inspector general.

Adding details to the public portions of the review, the former officials identified the officer as Albert, 60, a former FBI agent of Egyptian descent who worked as a bureau translator in New York before joining the CIA. The former officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because many details of the incident remain classified.

Both Albert and his CIA supervisor at the time, a second official known as Mike, were reprimanded for their involvement in the incident, the former officials said.

The AP is withholding the last names of the two men at the request of U.S. officials for safety reasons.

2. Mock executions are a violation of Geneva
and other US laws. This man should have been barred from contracting, if nothing else.

3. How precisely do we win elections
...When we are perceived as more upset at faking physical harm to a terrorist than we are by actual beheadings by terrorists that are filmed and placed on the internet.

4. Where did you find the perception?
I'm honestly curious, as there haven't been many beheadings lately.

5. In answer to your curiosity
The original post concerned behavior that the CIA agent was accused of doing in 2002, fairly close to the Pearl beheading and 9/11. Getting exercised about such behavior now creates a perception that the writer is in fact more concerned about instilling fear in a terrorist than in the horrors of terrorism. A perception of weakness that I think loses in the long run.

6. Maybe
What about if we threaten the T-baggers with torture?
Will that make us look bad ass, or what?

The difference between us and them is that we see the big-picture and they are idiots.
So stooping down to their idiocy just to make them happy is stupid..... we don't do stupid shit like that. Besides, torture is against the law and anti-American, eh?

9. Ah, yes, yet another "This is why 'we' lose elections" post.

Abiding by the rule of law is a bad thing to you? Being humane is a bad thing? Why do you hate America?

G"etting exercised about such behavior now creates a perception that the writer is in fact more concerned about instilling fear in a terrorist than in the horrors of terrorism."

Actually, it doesn't. You are responsible for your own perceptions; and I can see Dick Cheney nodding agreement with that particular one . The poster can be exercised about more than one thing. For most humans, it goes without saying that summarily executing or assassinating an innocent human by any means is heinous. So, there is no reason to draw any negative conclusions whatever from failure to include in a post "Of course, beheadings and other terrorist acts are heinous." And, as far as anyone can prove, the Pearl beheading is not open to being remedied, while this creep's actions can be stopped.

I also call bs:

Kindly point to an election we lost by abiding by treaties to which we are a party or by opposing torture.

Kindly prove anyone is more upset by torture than by beheadings.

Welcome to DU (again?).

8. I am guessing that he was in fact a translator and not an FBI agent

FBI agents confronted with CIA techniques at GITMO considered the techniques unconstitutional refused and with the support of FBI hdqrts left GITMO and left all interogation to the CIA.

A rar bright moment in FBI history.
