Halliburton: BP spill report has 'substantial' omissions, errors
Edited on Wed Sep-08-10 01:04 PM by sabra
Source: The Hill

Halliburton Co. is accusing BP of issuing an analysis of the causes of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill that includes “a number of substantial omissions and inaccuracies.”

BP’s report — issued early Wednesday — points the finger at itself for failing to prevent the April 20 blowup of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig. But the company also says both rig owner Transocean Ltd. and Halliburton — a BP-hired contractor responsible for cementing the well —are to blame.

Specifically, BP in its report faults Halliburton for failing to perform adequate “engineering rigor, cement testing and communication of risk."

But Halliburton is defending its work.

“Halliburton remains confident that all the work it performed with respect to the Macondo well was completed in accordance with BP’s specifications for its well construction plan and instructions, and that it is fully indemnified under its contract for any of the allegations contained in the report,” according to a statement from the company.

4. No surprises on how the US press will spin this though.
BP = "British" (actually almost equally American)
Halliburton = "American" (where's their HQ now though?)

I sadly anticipate seeing a lot more "defense" of Halliburton on DU
in the next few days ...

6. Hate Haliburton as much as you like. They're on record, telling BP...
...that their specifications were insufficient, and recommending a considerably more comprehensive procedure than the one BP instructed Halliburton to go with.

Not to defend Halibutron or KBR, but aside from the sheer corruption involved, their deficiencies in their "war efforts" are as likely to be down to simply operating outside their sphere of expertise. On the oil fields, I believe Haliburton are at the upper end of responsible operation. No claim that it might be sufficient, just that they're probably better than many.

8. This could be the easiest corporate-malfeasance investigation
in history. Just wait for the culprits to dig up all the dirt and throw it at each other, and then pan the results for the nuggets.

they'll be in with each other as thick as theives and pointing fingers for as long as it takes until the general public loses interest and it'll eventually fall into shades of obscurity.

15. Well of course hallacheney is going to bitch about BP.
surprised Trans Ocean hasn't bitched yet. And I haven't seen any underwater video of the rig. thats a big freaking rig. like having uh the fictional contraption in The Abyss go blub blub. It's down there somewhere... along with all the concrete. If Titanic is still down in the water, that rig must be.
