Pakistan: Beck Should Denounce Quran Burning
Source: AP

Ambassador to U.S. says Conservative Leader's Stance Against Fla. Church Plans Should be Stronger

(AP) Pakistan's ambassador to the United States is calling on conservative radio and television host Glenn Beck to denounce the planned burning of the Quran to show that Americans are tolerant of other faiths.

"I think it would help if Mr. Glenn Beck came out against it, and said that people of faith do not burn the books of people of other faith," Husain Haqqani told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Beck earlier this week wrote in an Internet blog posting that burning the Quran is like burning the flag or the Bible - something people can do in the United States, but shouldn't.

"Our good Muslim friends and neighbors will be saddened," he wrote. "It makes the battle that they face inside their own communities even harder."

It was unclear whether Haqqani was aware of the blog posting. A telephone message left with the Pakistani Embassy was not immediately answered.

The diplomat warned that if Florida Pastor Terry Jones goes ahead with his plans to burn copies of the Quran, it will set off a massive reaction in parts of the Muslim world.

1. How Sad
That Glenda is even being given this much attention. It shows what we have come to, that the Ambassador of Pakistan is reaching out to GB to denounce the Quran burning. A rodeo clown foul mouth, hate filled radio "entertainer" who on more than one occasion called our own President a racist on television.

The world is upside down, truly.

3. It's the result of Rupert Murdoch owning
many media outlets in Pakistan. Turborama has posted about that recently. And/or the Pakistanis are friends of Murdoch and are giving him this kind of attention to help boost his image.

It's a shame what that man has done to this country, but even more of a shame that he found an audience for his propaganda.

2. How embarrassing!
That's like the mayor of town nextdoor asking the village idiot to persuade the people.

Things like this make me cringe, to know that other people around the world know that we have a lot of teabagger idiots.

4. The ambassador doesn't realize
that the same people would burn Glen BlecKKK's Book of Mormon after they are done with the Qur'an. They are lunatics like him.

6. If only the press would have not given the Quran Burning Idiot air time...
Then we would not be dealing with another potentially deadly international incident! We all know if they go through with it more than likely people will die! And I am not talking about the added danger to our troops I am talking about civilians that happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time as angry mobs take to the streets across the Middle East, Africa & Asia...And perhaps Europe.

America is such an embarrassment!

8. Maybe its good they focus on a nutcase

The bad thing about terry Jones is that he reflects the current anti-islam "zeitgeist" in America pretty well.

The good thing about him is that he is a gold-plated nut job who can easily and accurately be portrayed as isolated and ridiculous.

But seriously, it isn't as though someone in America, somewhere at some time, wasn't going to imagine and then try to pull off this Koran-burning stunt.

The important task now is to explain to the Muslim world that, although Jones represents no-one but himself and his tiny band of loonies, he still has a constitutionally-protected right to express his religious views in any legal way he wants, and the government cannot and will not stop him.

In America, there is freedom of speech, but there is no right of anyone, Muslims included, to be protected from being offended by the speech of others.

I wish America's leaders would start making that clear, now, rather than waiting till the Muslim world is aflame with Koran-defending rioters threatening soft American targets abroad.

11. Sad. An ambassador to the US gives cred to a media created conservative pop idol.
In order to show his sincere abhorrence of intolerance, bigotry, and racism, maybe Beck and Lady Gaga could rap a televised duet of Neil Young's "Southern Man" live from the courthouse in Mongomery, Alabama.

That would surely get the attention of his klan kin.

13. As we have seen, Beck runs the country
The WH jumps when King Glenn says to, so maybe Terry Jones will also.
