Trump offers to buy out investor in NY mosque site
Source: Associated Press

Donald Trump is offering to buy out one of the major investors in the real estate partnership that controls the site near ground zero where a Muslim group wants to build a 13-story Islamic center and mosque.

In a letter released Thursday by Trump's publicist, the real estate investor tells Hisham Elzanaty he would buy his stake in the lower Manhattan building for 25 percent more than whatever he paid.

Trump says he's making the offer not because he thinks the location is spectacular but because it would end "a very serious, inflammatory, and highly divisive situation."

It's unclear whether Elzanaty has total control over the property, which is owned by an eight-member investment group managed by Soho Properties.

5. If they seriously want to end a serious, inflammatory, and highly divisive situation, then
have the guts and integrity to honor the First Amendment, build this community center; if zoning allows it and quit worshiping at the altar of the almighty dollar in order to bribe the people away from growth.

Thanks for the thread, mike.

7. I agree! The Pentagon has a prayer room...
Why not a community center?

It would provide a lot more freedom to people who must stop what they are doing five times a day to wash their feet and pray. I'm sure it would include footbaths... if not, it should.

8.  NY mosque investor declines Trump's buyout offer
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/39084916

NEW YORK — Donald Trump's offer to buy an investor's stake where a mosque is planned near ground zero is falling flat.

Wolodymyr Starosolsky is a lawyer for the investor in the real estate partnership that controls the site. He says Trump's offer is "just a cheap attempt to get publicity and get in the limelight."

In a letter released Thursday by Trump's publicist, Trump told Hisham Elzanaty he would buy his stake in the lower Manhattan building for 25 percent more than whatever he paid.

Trump says he's making the offer not because he thinks the location is spectacular, but because it would end "a very serious, inflammatory, and highly divisive situation."

10. He's actually adding more fuel to the fire by legitimizing the people who want to stop it.
Bad move. Trump should have just stayed out of it. This is going to die down after the elections in 2 months and the building will be built.

11. I admire Trump for this
Of all the people complaining about the mosque he's willing to put his money where his mouth is.
