State police: Gunman kills 5, then himself in rural Breathitt County in eastern Kentucky
Source: Fox News

JACKSON, Ky. – A gunman in rural eastern Kentucky killed five people with a shotgun before turning the weapon on himself Saturday, authorities said.

The shooting happened in a trailer park in the Mount Carmel community outside Jackson around 11:35 a.m. Saturday, Kentucky State Police and Breathitt County authorities said.

Sheriff Ray Clemons said the shooting appeared to be a domestic situation but it was too soon to make a complete determination.

Both Clemons and state Trooper Jody Sims say it's too early to release the names of the shooter or his victims. Sims said he had no information about the ages or relationships between the victims. That and other information could be released later Saturday pending positive identification of the victims and notifying their families.

it would have been so much better if he had used a knife or crossbow.

Maybe a gasoline bomb...

5. Meh, the gun grabbers can't resist...
They've completely lost the debate, but they still can't avoid the temptation to turn a story about a murderer into an anti-gun tirade.

....the gun militancy movement isn't winning the debate. Catch a fucking clue.

16. Yet violent crime rates are at a historic low and still falling
despite record gun ownership rates. Once you get past the emotion, the facts are on the civil rights side.

Huh?

What does that have to do with this? Besides, it's not true.

But the "guns in every household = freedom" nonsense has got to get under control.

I'd prefer mandatory training for ownership, myself.
...and there seems to be a lack of training on the part of police officers, if their chronic over-use is any indicator.

28. That is the more pressing issue we should be focusing on than the actual gun issue
How can something like this take place and it takes the police more than an hour to get there? It's absolutely mind-boggling to me.

33. Police are busy, they often have other priorities, and of course...
Edited on Sun Sep-12-10 10:28 AM by slackmaster
...Who wants to be in a hurry to go to a place where a crazy person is shooting?

The job of the police is to protect society in general, not to protect individuals. They also have a right to, and are expected to, keep themselves safe.

32. It's also par for the course. I live in a city. Last time I called the PD it took them 40 minutes.
To respond to a possible shooting in a suburban neighborhood.

It turned out to be a fisherman's seal bomb detonated by a neighbor who had found the device in the trunk of a car he had repossessed.
