Danish police investigating whether suspect targeted newspaper

A man arrested and charged with weapons violations after a small explosion at a Danish hotel was carrying identity papers from three central European countries, police said Sunday.

Authorities have not identified the man, but said he was "about 40." A judge on Saturday ordered him held in custody until October 4 while an investigation into the incident continues.

1. Police say cartoon-publishing newspaper may have been target

It appears it may be an attack arising from the fawta on the Danish newspaper that published the Mohammed cartoons back in 2005.

Daily newspaper Ekstrabladet, citing police sources, had suggested that the target of blast might have been the daily Jyllands-Posten, which in 2005 published cartoons depicting Prophet Muhammad in a way most Muslims found offensive.

However, Foldager said the report in Ekstrabladet "was not correct".

"We're working from a theory that Jyllands-Posten can be the target but there's a significant difference from Ekstrabladet's information," he said.++
