Sarah Palin's Iowa trip points to 2012 presidential run
Source: Guardian (UK)

Attendance at Republican dinner in key state is seen as biggest sign yet that Sarah Palin aims to take on Obama in 2012

Both the Democrat and GOP leadership hates her so I suppose that only leaves the Tea Party.

2. Points to an effort to keep the money flowing is more like it. . .
So long as she holds out the promise that she'll make the effort, there are fools-a-plenty who will feed her coffers. Once she withdraws from consideration, they'll seek other charlatans to whom they can pitch their pennies.

BINGO!

She has no intention of really running, and the "Powers That Be" conservative or liberal, are not gonna let her near any real power anyway. She doesn't play along like Dubya did, y'know.

29. How would you know whether or not she has a true intention of running?
The "Powers That Be", which I would call establishment Republicons, have shown that they cannot keep the tea party placated, what makes you think they would have any ability to stop Caribou Barbie if she wanted to run?

All she's gotta do is get a majority of delegates to the Rethug convention, and she's the nominee, it's that simple. The fundies hate Mitt Romney, the ones that went for Hucksterbee would rather have Miss Wasilla, and there's not enough support for Pawlenty, Gingrich, or Barbur.

Dismiss her at your own peril...

42. because if she runs and loses again, her star "quality" will dim quite a bit
As long as she keep dangling the carrot, she continues to make the bucks.

and the over arching theme to everything she does, is money.

although she could skew the common wisdom about greed and let ego get the best of her wallet.

I put nothing past teh stupid.

she will do what is in the best interest of her own ego.

If she does run, I'm waiting for her to say something along the lines of "god told me". That would be her shark jumping moment for everyone one, even the right wing mouth breathers.

54. Her base loves her because she is a 'victim' of the 'liberal media'
And if she tries and fails, that will just enhance the legend for the next go round.

The only way that we really make her go away is to cross over where possible, have her be the nominee, then let Barack Obama eat her for breakfast at the debates. Once a Repug gets the 'loser' label around their necks, they can't shake it, at least not since Nixon pulled that off over forty years ago.

But not New Hampshire, where I think Romney would win. South Carolina is out for Romney (Mormonism), so there it could come down to Palin and Haley Barbour or Gingrich.

57. She could win in Iowa
"... As The Fix detailed yesterday, social conservatives are a hugely influential group in Iowa Republican politics. They fueled former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee's (R) come-from-behind win in 2008 and made a significant showing in this year's gubernatorial primary. Should Palin run, she could be just the candidate that appeals to social conservatives in the state..."

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/thefix/daily-fix-poll/daily-fix-poll-could-sarah-pal.html

Overall, she has little chance - but winning Iowa is possible.

Did the Germans ever believe they would get what Hitler turned out to be?

The winner of the next presidential election will either be Obama, the Democrat, or the Republican candidate. So if it's not Obama, then it's the other choice, whoever that may be.

But then again one also hopes that people would have learned from past history and act accordingly.
..The right wing never had much interest in anything but its own agenda...I get pissed off every time they make it seem as if Obama is responsible for the current economic mess...as if 8 years of Destruction could be undone in but a couple.

Democrats should really start putting the blame where it belongs...and not pull any punches

23. I think we've learned from history that people do not learn from history
because it is too distant from the here and now that is impacting their lives.

There is also a chance that what Obama has done will see fruition in the next 2 years and we will have turned the corner. Then that is what people will remember.

If he does win the 2012 election(I hope he does!), then the chances are that we would see the fruits of his current economic recovery efforts during his second term.

But cos the rot is so deep, change might not be visible for quite a few years

39. That's the problem, people vote based upon what is happening to them now, not in the future.
We are an instant gratification society: we want it and we want it now. Americans are an impatient lot when it comes to politicians and they demand a quick end to the economic pain that took years to create.

This Knee-jerk reaction people have in elections over here quite baffled me. I mean...unless one looks at things in the proper context...they are bound to be only reactionary.

I totally agree with your point. In fact this mentality is heavily detrimental to the nation....
8 years of horrid econ policies/wars....4 years for a president to at least partially get the country out of the mariana trench...only to be set upon by people for "not doing enough" to save the economy.

As someone said..History does not repeat itself..but historical situations reoccur....and those who do not learn from history are bound to repeat the same mistakes.

Let me put it this way....I have confidence that the American people would not elect Palin over Obama if Palin wins the GOP primary

IF they do select her...that's it..there is no hope for this country and people should, as you said, start moving out.And those left behind should reap the results of their choice, because any country which chooses Palin over Obama is willing to commit suicide.

All she has to do is to sit on the book signing table and say some choice sentences...with the word "also" being used at least once every five words.

(lol her continued usage of the "also" really annoyed the heck out of me during the last election... talk about defective speech!)
