300 ballots found in District 28 race; Cuellar in lead (vs Ciro Rodriguez)
Edited on Tue Mar-30-04 07:34 PM by Gman
<snip>
More than 300 votes were discovered during a Zapata County recount in the District 28 congressional battle, giving Laredo's Henry Cuellar a slight lead over U.S. Rep. Ciro Rodriguez.

The votes apparently came from one of the two early vote boxes, according to officials with the Zapata County Elections Department.

It was unclear this afternoon how large Cuellar's lead is.

The discovery of the missing votes is highly suspicious, according to Rodriguez.

“There's no doubt that there's some fraud going on, some illegal activities,” he said today.

Rodriguez is planning to file a lawsuit contesting the recount results, said his Austin-based attorney Buck Wood.
</snip>

This is coomplete bullshit! Everyone knew that if there was a fraud problem it was going to be in Webb (Laredo) or Zapata county. Zapata county didn't even report a tally until the late WEDNESDAY MORNING after the primary. Cuellar won Zapata County by a count of 2119 to 788. Total votes were 2907 in 8 precincts. And now 300 extra votes show up???

The other thing about this is that Cuellar asked for a recount just minutes before the deadline for a recount. And, his attorney WAS THE LEAD LAWYER FOR THE GOP FRAUDULENT, ILLEGAL AND UNCONSTITUTIONAL CONGRESSIONAL REDISTRICTING PLAN!

This is such a crock of bullshit and I am spitting nails right now I'm so pissed.

5. The Texas scene is pretty pathetic
But. isn't one of the complaints that the entire country is a banana republic? Actually, I recall that Landslide Lyndie managed to raise the dead down in the valley at just the right time to win. Hey, Kennedy may have won that way, or at least countered the necromancers in California on Nixon's payroll.

3. I told my wife
when Zapata county took so damn long to report that there was going to be a problem with Zapata county. They didn't report until late the next morning. You just had to know they were waiting to see how many votes Cuellar needed before Zapata County reported. I guess they miscalculated. So now they come up with this.

This is EXACTLY why I was so against Tony Sanchez for governor. There has NEVER been anything politically good come out of that area. They're screwing Ciro big time. Fortunately Ciro knows it. But getting something done about it will be another issue.

I KNEW that's what they were doing in Zapata County. I KNEW IT! I saw how things were done down there when I worked with Charlie Jones against Henry Bonilla in the 90's. They are so fucking corrupt its beyond the funny jokes about South Texas politics.

9. The prevailing Republican attitude is that they are above the law.
Edited on Tue Mar-30-04 08:22 PM by GOPisEvil
Because, in point of fact, they are the law in most cases. For all his faults, Ronnie Earle is our best friend in Texas Gov't. right now.

Cuellar is just a wolf in sheep's clothing.
