Clinton endorses Brown for governor, ignores Brown's slight
Source: LA Times

Former President Bill Clinton endorsed Jerry Brown’s bid to become governor on Tuesday, saying he and Brown had put the ugliness from their 1992 primary battle behind them and that Republican Meg Whitman’s ad that featured him was misleading.

"I strongly support Jerry Brown for governor because I believe he was a fine mayor of Oakland, he's been a very good attorney general, and he would be an excellent governor at a time when California needs his creativity and fiscal prudence," Clinton said in a statement to The Times.

The former president became an issue in the gubernatorial contest last week, when Whitman began airing a 30-second ad featuring footage of him trying to refute Brown's claim that he had lowered taxes as governor of California from 1975 to 1983.

(snip)

“Moreover, the tough campaign we fought 18 years ago is not relevant to the choice facing Californians today," Clinton said. "Jerry and I put that behind us a long time ago.”

1. Good for the Big Dog. I wish the DNC would get Bill on the road for this Fall.
His face will remind voters of better times. I think he could save Congress if he was dispatched properly.

3. I think most of us have probably badmouthed Clinton at some point in the past
Sometimes because of his reckless personal life and sometimes because of his reckless centrism.

9. For a privotal role in converting the Democratic Party into a wing of the Republican Party.
Moving America Right.

A belated, half-hearted endorsement of Brown doesn't make up for that.

4. Bill Clinton endorses Jerry Brown for Gov.
Source: abc

A day after California Attorney General and Democratic candidate for governor Jerry Brown apologized to former President Bill Clinton for a joke about the Monica Lewinsky scandal, Clinton Tuesday not only accepted the apology, he endorsed Brown for governor.

Clinton issued a statement Tuesday saying Brown would be: "An excellent governor at a time when California needs his creativity and fiscal prudence."

Brown apologized Monday for taking a jab at Clinton about the Lewinsky scandal in response to a campaign ad released by Brown's opponent in the gubernatorial race, Republican Meg Whitman.

The ad shows Clinton criticizing Brown when the two were running against each other for president in 1992.

11. I know some will say that I'm picking on Bill Clinton, but why stop at "misleading"
Edited on Wed Sep-15-10 07:14 AM by karynnj
It is 100% wrong. He had the out to say that he was quoting a reputable CNN journalist without having his staff fact check it. Misleading is simply too weak it is - in fact - simply not true.

For the Clinton fans, consider what HIS outrage would have been in say 1996, if a Republican found a comment made by an opponent that was PROVABLY not true and was about something that was not subjective, and the Democrat said it was "misleading". If it were Clinton, Clinton would have expected - and likely got more.
