Battleground Poll: Democrats tied in generic

Voters, by a 9-point margin, believe Republicans will pick up both the House and the Senate, even though they are evenly divided over whom they intend to back in six weeks, according to a new POLITICO/George Washington University Battleground Poll.

In a generic matchup between the two parties, those surveyed were split 43-43 when asked if they would back a Republican or a Democrat on Election Day. This is good news for Democrats and at odds with many other public polls, which have shown Republicans holding a single-digit edge.

Better yet for Democrats, in several key regions with numerous House and Senate seats in play — namely, the Midwest and Northeast — they hold a 5-point advantage, suggesting the party’s congressional fortunes aren’t nearly as grim as the media coverage might suggest.

3. What is a generic poll?

I thought that the generic poll is the one that they held a 10 point margin in? Is this just another group taking the same poll? If so, is it a valid polling company? I feel kind of stupid here because I really do not know what to conclude here except that things may not be as bad as they seem.

which has since shown it all evened up again. This is a different polling company asking the same question. A generic poll is one where you only ask Dem vs Rep instead of asking about specific races naming candidates.

I tend to discount these generic polls. I suspect we're going to have to wait until November 3 to count things up and either rejoice or bemoan.

Wow, do they really not see the irony in that statement. Politico is one of the biggest offenders when it comes to pushing the democratic doomsday scenario and now they say this. Seriously, do they not understand what the word hypocrisy means?
