ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE - Americans would not be paying high prices for gasoline if the Congress had passed President Bush (news - web sites)'s proposed energy package three years ago, a White House spokesman said Tuesday as the administration faced criticism from Democratic rival John Kerry (news - web sites).

McClellan said the administration has been in regular contact with major oil producing countries to stress the importance of letting the market determine the prices of oil.

"What we need are comprehensive solutions, not patchwork crisis management," the spokesman said.

"We wouldn't be in this situation right now if Congress had acted on what the president had proposed three years ago," he said.

is what this country may need. Well, maybe not a crisis, but definitely something to make people think about their SUV's. Gas is expensive, but you wouldn't be spending as much if you didn't have to fill your tank after 15 city miles.

We need to get serious about how we're going to solve the problem. Cheap gas is just more delusional thinking, IMO. Doesn't everyone else in the world pay alot more?

As I've said here many times before, in Canada we pay the equivalent of almost $4.00 US a gallon. And the US whines about $1.75 - and some of it is our freakin' gas that was shipped down there! Good ol' NAFTA where Canada pays more for its own gas, and Florida pays more for its own orange juice. What a f**ked up system!
