The Reverend Jesse Jackson to Host Weekly Talk Show on Clear Channel Radio

Clear Channel Radio and the Reverend Jesse L. Jackson Sr. today announced that the Rev. Jackson will host of a live, one-hour talk show airing Sundays from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. Central time (8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Eastern). Keep Hope Alive(tm) With the Rev. Jesse Jackson will debut April 4 exclusively on Clear Channel Radio stations and will originate from Chicago's WGCI-AM.

The broadcast will focus on issues of cultural, political and religious significance with guest appearances by community and world leaders and a live call-in segment. The show marks the first time the Rev. Jackson will host a radio program.

"We will discuss the central issues -- local, national and international -- of our time," said the Rev. Jackson. "We will offer information, inspiration, direction and many points of view. We will talk with and hear from you. We intend to connect the nation through shared conversation; your voice matters. Remember, in the beginning was the Word. The Word and you have the power. no, i think they are only doing this to cover their asses, and pretend as if they "care" about the issues we do. and setting up a "liberal" show to fail with respect to ratings. "see, we tried, but rush has sooo many more fans it's clear there's no demand for liberal radio."

XM is the satellite Co. owned by Clear Channel.

To their credit, they have added a "Liberal: talk channel- 167.

4. So what?

Do you remember, about a decade ago, Jackson hosted a TV talk show? It lasted only a short time, and its failure wasn't simply due to the lack of opposing viewpoints on the show. It was mostly due to the pedantic, irritating performance of Jackson himself. He might be able to hold together a rally of people who basically agree with him, but he can't attract an audience of the less-than-totally-willing.

This is an easy call for Clear Channel. They get to prove that liberal viewpoints don't work on their networks. The only way they could have gotten a host more certain to be cancelled would be to hold a casting call at a large urban bus station at two AM.

These guys mainly care about ratings- if it does well, they will put it on more of their regular stations...
