Vulnerable House Dems Declare Their Independence
Source: AP via Huffington Post

CRISTINA SILVA | 09/26/10 02:25 PM
LAS VEGAS — Rep. Dina Titus has been a loyal soldier in pushing the Democrats' ambitious agenda, voting for health care legislation, extended unemployment benefits, new energy taxes and a repeal of the military's ban on gays serving openly. Her campaign signs, however, proclaim Titus an "independent voice" for Nevadans.

Aware that their stock has taken the same tumble as home values, Congress' most vulnerable Democrats are declaring their independence from their party's agenda in Facebook profiles, television advertisements, news interviews and campaign websites leading up to the Nov. 2 election. That's when Republicans hope to retake control of the House they lost four years ago.

The rebranders include Democratic Reps. Betsy Markey and John Salazar in Colorado, Zack Space in Ohio, Jason Altmire in Pennsylvania, Glenn Nye in Virginia and Joe Donnelly in Indiana. In Texas, Rep. Chet Edwards, once promoted as a potential running mate for Barack Obama, has become a vocal critic of his party's policies.

The tactic could hurt Democratic turnout at a time when the party needs to protect its majority in Congress, some political strategists say.

We're seeing a similar jump away from the Party as are the Republicans via the Teabaggers - except ours isn't orchestrated by Big Business of course

2. What a bunch of spineless MFs
They're either for what the Dems stand for or not. I guess in this example though, some Dems don't stand for anything.

3. Boy, a lot of cobbled snips to get this spin piece together, Ms. Silva..
And, whenever I read "some political strategists say" I go - where are the various citations?

The one brief quote is from a guy who, around this time in 2008, opined that Obama "was unlikely to win".

Yeah, there's frictions and factions within the party. It's not really a new thing. Nor is it a bad thing.

Nor the end-of-the-party-as-we-know-it apocalypse "some spin meisters" claim.

4. Independance of what? Their brain or their spine?
...get a spine jellyfish!

...stand up! Get a positive message and stick with it!

And if you don't and your sorry asses get voted out? BUH-BYE!

We'll get someone new.

5. Cowards.
If I'm going down, I want to go down with my principles
intact. I don't want to be represented by spineless jellyfish,
anyway.
