GOP Leaders: Sarah Palin Must be Stopped
Source: CBS News

Updated 6:24 p.m. Eastern Time

Last night, Politico posted an anonymously-sourced story reporting that advisers to top potential 2012 Republican presidential candidates are united in their desire to stop Sarah Palin from winning the presidential nomination out of a fear that she would lose badly in the general election. "There is a determined, focused establishment effort ... to find a candidate we can coalesce around who can beat Sarah Palin," someone described as a "prominent and longtime Washington Republican" told Politico. "We believe she could get the nomination, but Barack Obama would crush her."

Palin quickly responded to the story on Fox News' "On the Record" last night, criticizing the use of anonymous sources and stating, "The paper that we just printed this article on was not worth even wrapping my king salmon in."

<snip>

UPDATE: Palin has now sarcastically referred to Politico and other detractors "puppy-kicking, chain-smoking porn producers" in an email to the Daily Caller.

She reportedly wrote: "I suppose I could play their immature, unprofessional, waste-of-time game, too, by claiming these reporters and politicos are homophobe, child molesting, tax evading, anti-dentite, puppy-kicking, chain smoking porn producers...really, they are... I've seen it myself...but I'll only give you the information off-the-record, on deep, deep background; attribute these 'facts' to an 'anonymous source' and I'll give you more."

What can I say? Not only do they eat their own, they eat each other! Bon appetit!

Oh hell, I do have something to say. Sarah Palin is so short-sighted and crazy, she may bring down the entire GOP. Wouldn't it be sweet?

You know, like O'Donnell does when she finds herself having to answer "difficult" questions.

I'd like to see Todd and Karl go at it, mano a mano

She's just there as a distraction. The old boys' club that is the GOP will never allow her to have any real power.

7. She's just a distraction, nothing more.
She'll never make a serious run, because:

1. Even she knows she'd never get enough votes
2. That'll be the end of the money train for her

She's in idiot, but she's smart enough to know that she tapped into some serious cash and will never give that up for office. Life is much easier to sit on the side and throw grenades, and she's go that gig. Plus, she may bring out the stupid in people but it is nothing that wasn't already there - just makes it easier for us to identify them.

23. Not only that
but she has no stomach for all of the hard, unglamorous WORK that goes into a primary campaign, lots of it after the cameras are turned off and the cheering crowds have gone home. Add to that her complete lack of people skills, and she won't hold together a viable organization for long at all, even if her male competitors in the Republican primary weren't determined to trash her.

41. I disagree,
I think she will run because of the money train. If she doesn't run, all the attention will go to the many repubs running, and she'll be kicked off the gravy train. Foxpac won't pay her the big bucks to snark the repub candidates, and her use by date is fast approaching. She won't win the primaries, she just has to keep her name front and center so the feeble minded will keep paying to hear her ramble.

66. I agree. While everyone is bashing her Jeb Bush is waiting in the wings. At the right time he will
ride in on his "white" horse and slay the Palin dragon. The party will unite behind him. All the corporate money will support Bush III and kick Palin into the gutter where she came from. Remember, Repubs dont like uppity women.

75. Exactly! If Palin drops out, then the Rethugs are likely to nominate...
-- someone dynamic and well-spoken and bright -- someone like Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey, for example -- that is, someone who could conceivably beat Barack Obama in 2012.

If it's Obama against Palin in the general election, Obama gets four more years, no question. But if it's Obama vs. a really smart Neocon with strong, tenable ideas that can actually ARTICULATE them to the masses, then we are fucking screwed.

I pray to God they give Palin the nomination.

11. Exactly
She goes nuts anytime she receives criticism. And she obviously holds grudges (e.g., Murkowski). Imagine what it'll be like if she runs in the republican primaries (unless the other candidates are so scared of her rabid followers that they treat her with kid gloves). It's going to be really difficult for her not to implode. Not only is she stupid, but she doesn't have the temperament to hold public office.

61. No kidding! Sheesh!!!
She's nothing but a Mean Girl Made Good. Unfortunately. Classic case of bad behavior rewarded. So the message is - do more of that! You'll get rewarded even MORE!!! And now she's become just plain NASTY.

Shitty woman she is. Heck even my friend (from Alaska, oddly enough) who's a red-state voter - and her husband is such a knuckle-dragger that he stays home when he knows she's coming over to visit me (he hates my guts) thinks so. My friend even said, a couple of years back, "she's going to set the woman's movement back 50 years." This from my red-state-voter friend. If SHE thinks so, that's quite telling.

And to think that john mcsame banked on that as the way to get the disaffected Hillary voters...

14. Notice that the thrust of the Republican objection to Sarah Palin
is not that she is completely unqualified, ignorant, petty, shallow, vindictive and that her presidency would be a disaster, but merely that she would lose the election and thereby bring other Republicans down with her.

I certainly hope they are correct, but I think their focus on the problem with Sarah Palin as they seem concerned about it speaks volumes.

73. IMO, it's an effort to create a more radical ... VIOLENT... right wing ....
Overall, notice where the public is being taken constantly --

hearing about violence over and again --

This has been going on since the early 1970's --

And, it is really the only way the right wing can rise and take hold --

other than stolen elections and lies which will still go on, of course!

74. Well, she's interested in attention, money, and sex....
...Which means that the people she endorses are probably willing to give her two out of the three... which means that scandal and corruption will follow in her wake.

Wait a minute. Why do the other Republicans hate her?

76. Palin is a frightening blight, that reflects badly upon a large group of Americans that find her
heroic!

She's dangerous.

And she's not only their problem, she's a threat to our well being with her crazy views.

77. I hope she is a force in the primaries,
more division in the republican party the better.

And if she somehow wins the nomination it is probably the best dems can hope for.

If Obama can't beat her in the general, she might quit in two years.

I really would like to see a Palin/O'donnell ticket. It would add a punctuation mark to American politics.
