San Francisco Treat GIANTS WIN WORLD SERIES
Edited on Mon Nov-01-10 09:49 PM by cal04
Source: Associated Press

Tim Lincecum, Edgar Renteria and the San Francisco Giants won the World Series on Monday night, beating the Texas Rangers 3-1 in a tense Game 5 and taking the trophy home to the city by the Bay for the first time.

Renteria hit a tiebreaking home run off Cliff Lee in the seventh, and Lincecum pitched three-hit ball over eight innings, allowing Nelson Cruz's solo homer in the bottom half. Brian Wilson finished for his first Series save.

It was an overdue victory — the Giants last wore the crown in 1954, four years before they moved west. So much for a franchise that never quite got it done in October despite the likes of baseball giants Willie Mays, Barry Bonds and Juan Marichal. It's November, and now new names stand tall in San Francisco.

59. Seeing B*sh's misery late in the game made my night, especially since it was at the hands of my
Quasi-wannabe-boyfriend, Tim Lincecum! 8 awesome innings of 3 hit ball, and B*shy sitting there all glum with his hand on his face like a sad sack was golden.

Congrats to San Francisco beating the Rangers, AND George DUBYA in his backyard! Like Timmy said, they wanted to
"shut them up" at home, love it!

Edited on Tue Nov-02-10 12:56 AM by Divine Discontent
notice his tone when he said that the team wanted to win in Texas to shut em up. Loved that. You know, as I do, how people mock things that are unique, or lovely, or interesting, and it is so FREAKin awesome for TIMMY to get these big wins and bag the WS for SAN FRAN... such a great way to win it with DUBYA sitting there forced to watch his team SUCK!

Jesus was said to wear his hair long. Existing paintings of the early Christian era all have him wearing long dark hair. Was He infantile??

3. What a story those Giants
Win the division on the last day of the season. Knock off Bobby Cox and the Braves, then mow through the damn Phillies, and now take the series from the other team that ESPN said had no chance to even make it past the NLDS.

when SF was kicking ass, which was, like, constantly.

Their anti-SF bias was so plain. You could tell they were utterly crushed that the Rangers were getting, well, utterly crushed.

I listened to the first 2 games on KNBR 680 AM, so I could hear some announcing with some fucking ENTHUSIASM for the Giants.

Mayes, Big Mac, Orlando Cepeda, Juanito Marichal, the Clark(e)s, Dick Dietz, Robby Thompson, Chris Speier my 14 yr old crush, Matt Williams, two generations of Bondses, The Count, The Bird, Rollie Fingers, Tito Fuentes, so many!

That's something I'd LOVE to see. Especially after today - just little things but frustration after frustration after frustration just kept adding up. And then of course there's all the damned doom-and-gloom in the election-eve coverage.

So THIS is MOST welcome! The whole blue state/red state game thing. MOST welcome.

But seeing dubya getting the bad news - that would be the cherry on the sundae.

46. I never saw those awards but I put in my time
Late sixties, early seventies I spent many Friday nights in the right field bleachers. Ninety cents admission was big bang for the buck. We took sleeping bags to huddle in, it was that cold.

The crazy guy in our gang would strip his sweaters off down to his skin and start yelling to Lon Simmons up in the KSFO announcer booth, "HEY Lon, It's a shirtsleeve crowd tonight", then he'd quickly don his clothes and go over and purchase a hot cocoa before he turned blue.

It was cold, but we had fun.

38. I remember watching the Giants/Angels WS back in 2002
The Giants were leading the Series 3-2 and blew it when they traveled to Anaheim for the last 2 games. I was watching Game 7 at a local Red Lobster. 8 years later, what a breakout for my Giants! Now let's see what happens at the polls tomorrow.

39. Why is MLB does the world series hardly ever go...
7 games....lately the majority of the series go 4 or 5 games (although last year it took the yanks to win it in 6 games).

41. Congrats Giants
I was born August 20th, 1954 which is about 1 month before the last time the Giants won the World Series. So I can truthfully say that I have waited my whole life for this and it feels great. I was born in Eureka on the North Coast of California and am a life long SF Giants fan. With the young pitching staff we have we may be visiting the playoffs on a regular basis for the next few years.

99. Well....since I left my
heart in SF...I guess I'm there in spirit.

I attended many 49er celebrations. And I remember the MSM calling us a 'finesse' team...right. We finessed them all right...to 5 Superbowls.

So happy for SF and all the Giants fans. I'll get a t-shirt to remember this great win over W's team. DU could make some good bucks on a great design.

68. Congrats Giants! I Love this Team for 3 Reasons
#1 My late grandfather use to be a fan before they moved from NY, but he always kept up with them, I wish he could have seen this, he would have loved it! #2 My husband tells me Dave Righetti, one of your pitching coaches is a former NY Yankee, who pitched a no hitter on July 4, 1983, and how amazing that was. #3 You took it to the Bushs right in their own backyard! (stadium) In your face! Awesome!!!! Now that's San Francisco Values! I'm so happy for all of you! Enjoy your celebration tonite & all year long!

This World Series has brought large money to Arlington and San Francisco, both cities who I am sure could use the extra cash to spread around. Its helped fill up a few Restaurants, given extra money to those who provide transportation, and have helped Hotels, in a time when few people are visiting, because of the poor economy. Not only that, but because both cities have received such publicity, it may bring back more tourists in the near future who will spend money and help our local economy.

and I know here in Texas, well, it caused a lot of excitement getting that close - I just don't see a lot of excitement during these trying times - it was sorely needed, despite the outcome. They were good games and I see no hard feelings here. :)

And to the entire Bay Area, one of the jewels of this great country. The Giants are a founding franchises of all of baseball and have a storied history. Unfortunately, the last half century was pretty bleak. It is about time.

114. So Cool I said the Giants would win
I still have the child's sun hat from the 1954 series my dad had attended and bought for me...

He was a big Giant's fan. He remained their fan when they moved to San Francisco.. His all time favorite player was Willie Mays....

If there is a heaven, my Dad, son and husband are shouting out and dancing the world series dance.

120. I was born in 1953. The Giants last won in 1954.
My family parents and maternal grandparents were hard core Giants fans. Grandfather was less than mediocre pitcher signed with the SF Seals about 100 years ago.

I went to games every year in San Francisco from 1959 to 2003 and watch the Giants when I can now on satelite TV.

This is good for me. I went on rooters buses in 1962 for Dodger-Giant games and a playoff game in 1962, a very long wait.

I feel good for the vets and young players and their chemistry this year.
