Democrat Boxer holds Senate seat in California

WASHINGTON | Tue Nov 2, 2010 11:09pm EDT

Nov 2 (Reuters) - California Democratic U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer won re-election on Tuesday, Fox News projected, all but ensuring that Democrats will retain control of the Senate.

Boxer, one of the more powerful liberals in the Senate, eked out the victory after a bruising fight against former Hewlett-Packard Co chief executive Carly Fiorina and with help from President Barack Obama.

Fiorina, a political novice, had been running neck-and-neck against Boxer despite California's reputation as a mostly Democratic state. Republicans made it a major priority to win the seat and invested millions of dollars into the race.

The victory for Democrats was critical as they sought to stave off a Republican bid to pick up 10 seats and win control of the Senate. (Reporting by Jeremy Pelofsky; Editing by Frances Kerry)

Yeah, I think that's a good call....

edit: no snark intended! I really do think it's a good call, even with virtually none of the precincts in yet.

7. Of course she will. Fiorina abandoned her campaign in the last 10 days.
Even if she HAD been ahead, she would have lost. She's a quitter, and I don't give a damn what her alleged medical excuse is.

13. I have a feeling this win call is going to be pulled soon
She may still win in the end, but the AP will call it too close to call. Remember Bob Smith in NH around 12 years ago or so? AP and the news stations called it to his opponent, and then it was reversed. You heard it here first.

14. Don't tell stupid Carly. She's not having any of it until 75% are counted.
According to her, they're still in a dead heat.

I hope Carly's not watching Boxer's victory speech right now. Her head might explode before 75% in in.
