Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid wins fifth term, defeats tea party star Sharron Angle

LAS VEGAS - Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is going back to Congress. The Democratic leader seized a fifth term Tuesday after a vicious battle with tea party star Sharron Angle.

The race was a closely watched marker in a year when resurgent Republicans sought to take control of Capitol Hill.

Reid overcame a litany of challenges: He was unpopular at home, and Republican Angle blamed him for Nevada's devastated economy that leads the nation in unemployment, bankruptcies and foreclosures.

Reid promised to return the state to prosperity, and he depicted Angle as a fringe conservative whose policies would hurt Nevada families.

THANK GOD! This is a MASSIVE FAILURE for the GOP/teabaggers tonight.

John Kerry Bashes Politico, Huffington Post While Calling Harry Reid 'Lazarus'

Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) tonight held nothing back when congratulating Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid for managing to survive a tough reelection bid tonight.

Here's Kerry statement:

"Politico was wrong, Huffington Post was wrong, hell, all the pundits were wrong. Harry Reid isn't just Dracula, he isn't just Lazarus, he's our Leader and our whole caucus is thrilled that he's unbreakable and unbeatable."

1. Finally some good f*cking news
Now if Joe Miller goes down the tea partiers didn't do so hot in senate races. Glad Reid is apparenlty going to win decisively as well!

2. 1 hour ago: Harry Reid hanging on to lead over Sharron Angle
Best I could find. I don't like this quote:

After casting her vote in Reno, Angle said she was “cautiously optimistic” about her chances this evening. But she added, when prompted by a reporter, that her campaign is prepared for a recount if that becomes necessary.

“Whatever is necessary to do,” she said. “We have to be ready for any opportunity.”

8. Reid 50 -- Angle 45
Angle screwed up. She was beaten by a surge of Hispanic voters that she pissed off big time. Gotta love her. Her mouth is a black hole. She got sucked into it's event horizon and collapsed into herself. ** Happy dance **

15. According to Bill Richardson, Latinos in Nevada went 90% for Reid.
There's your margin of victory.

10. About 6 percentage points for Reid, 50 to 44
Three counties haven't reported at all yet - Lincoln, Nye, and Eureka. None have many people in them, around 30,000 registered voters total . . . but they are more conservative leaning.

I suppose, if they all voted for Angle, she could still pull it out - but Clark County (Las Vegas and largest population center) has only 23.8% of the precincts counted as of 45 minutes ago.

9. John Boner has very little to stand on.
House might get whatever.. but lets see if the Dems pull a Repuk and filibuster the heck out of it.

The Senate dodged a bullet. Elected Rand Paul and Marco Rubio. Thats enuf radicals for the moment.

11. Good that morons like Angle and O'Donnell are kept OUT of the Senate.
Otherwise I'd seek political asylum in Canada tomorrow morning. No, Dennis Quaid hasn't gotten it yet. ;-) Now let's see what Reid has in store for the next half of Obama's first term.

14. I think this win gives Reid the right to tell the Republicans to "man up"
and do what is right by the American people.

16. Thank god. One Michelle Bachman in congress is enough.
Like just about everyone I'm not a huge fan of Reid, but Angle's a walking nightmare.

19. If he were thinking of the Democratic Party
he would step down as ML now. He has 6 more yrs in the Senate and I'm glad he won, but the Dems and Obama are DESPERATE for new Congressional leadership. Harry may be ok behind the scenes in the Senate (though there is a lot of proof he's not able to keep the troops in line), but he hurts the party so much with the public. We need a vibrant leader in the Senate!

20. While it is good that
Senator Reid won, he seems much too like a DINO. He agrees with Republicans on quite a lot; abortion, same-sex marriage, etc.

It's not that good to have a social conservative as Majority Leader in a Democratic party. But, still glad he won.
