Oberstar's out: Minn. House dean falls to GOP tide (MN-8)
Source: AP

>>>MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Democratic Rep. Jim Oberstar is out.

The dean of Minnesota's congressional delegation and the powerful chairman of the House Transportation Committee has been defeated by newcomer Chip Cravaack.

Cravaack is a former Navy and Northwest Airlines pilot.

In TV ads, Cravaack said he ran against Oberstar "with all due respect." But he criticized Oberstar for federal spending and supporting the health care overhaul.>>>

1. Minnesota is pissing me off right now.
They voted back in Michele Bachmann (in my district, to be exact) and the race for governor is going into overtime.

And now this.

:grr:

6. You think that's bad? Try living in Wisconsin
Which apparently is now a red state.

Ron Johnson over Russ Feingold? C'mon people!

:banghead:

And to be fair, Charles Manson could run as a Repub in that district and win. The fact that her lead has always been kinda weak says volumes. People there think she's crazy, but they'll still vote GOP.

3. Damn.
Decades ago, he profusely complimented my safety report and recommendations when my agency head appeared for an authorization hearing. I was working late in my office when the agency head came back to tell me--after draping himself in the agency flag. :)

I always liked Oberstar, and he had developed a wealth of knowledge and expertise on transportation issues that was unmatched in Congress. And he was a champion of safety regulation of the industry.

Sad to see him go...

4. There are 100x more replies on the "cheer up, Dems are destined to win some time" threads
Then there are for people like Oberstar who will be forgotten by the blogosphere.

Note that this was always Minnesota's most left-leaning rural district, home to working class miners, the city of Duluth, and Bob Dylan too.

10. Can you believe that we here in St. Louis held this seat since 1948
one thing tho, Oberstar did not do much campaigning. I guess he thought he was at least safe. St. Louis is the strongest of the stronghold of the Democrats in the whole country and this is what happened. Now Dayton is holding a tiny lead and it will go into recount. Again and I have said this over and over there was hanky panky in Hennpin County. They again came up with the fact, so they say, that they were not uploading properly and they had to correct that and give Emmer more votes. This is what happened with Franken. And with all the recounting they found oh so many many errors in Hennpin county. And I told you Bachmann would win. No body is going to take her seat as long as it is drawn the way it is.

There were more foreclosures, more job lost, less jobs created and the worst financial mess than the whole state. She runs around the country and has done absolutely nothing for the people. Clark has worked her butt off for the eight district, but the voted for Bachmann over her. This is what republicans do, disregard the country, the state and the people to vote republican and try to get a republican majority. I just hope the drunk Emmer does not get enough votes.

13. I think there was hanky panky in many places. The takeover was too completein spite of the fact
that prior to election time many were way behind in the polls and yet they won??????? C'mon people! I cannot believe that that all of these races over the whole Country were on the up and up.

15. You'll get the reconfigured district back in two years.
That much is clear. I personally think Oberstar should run again.
