Bysiewicz: Malloy Winner Of Governor's Race
November 03, 2010 - 01:05PM ET

By CHRISTOPHER KEATING
12:39 p.m. EDT, November 3, 2010

HARTFORD — "....Dannel Malloy has won the election for governor, and there will be no statewide recount, Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz announced this afternoon…..Even though votes in the governor's race were still being counted, both Democrat Dan Malloy and Republican Tom Foley were inching closer to declaring victory Wednesday morning…..Meanwhile, Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz said if there is a recount, it could be weeks before the winner is known…..Republicans intend to challenge any ballots cast after 8 p.m. at 12 polling places in the city. Those votes were being counted as provisional ballots and would be kept separate from the others, the judge ruled. "There's no way of knowing if people were turned away or just saw on television that people could vote past 8 p.m.," said Kevin O'Connor, a former U.S. Attorney who represented Foley at the hearing Tuesday. "Depending on the outcome of the election, every one of those ballots will be challenged as being an illegal vote."…Bysiewicz said Wednesday it would be a "grave miscarriage of justice not to count those ballots" from the last two hours of Bridgeport...."

2. This assists Malloy in the PR battle. Even though the numbers
show he won, the PR battle is important as Wife beater Tommy has money to buy lawyers.

4. Reading the whole article, you'd think Foley won! Republicans don't want to count votes--again.

"The voting extension in Bridgeport was expected to help Malloy in Democratic-dominated Bridgeport. The extension was ordered by a Superior Court judge after a shortage of ballots prevented some from voting.

Republicans intend to challenge any ballots cast after 8 p.m. at 12 polling places in the city.

"Depending on the outcome of the election, every one of those ballots will be challenged as being an illegal vote."

Earlier, during an appearance on Fox CT morning news, Bysiewicz said Bridgeport had ordered 21,000 ballots for almost 70,000 registered voters.

'They probably thought they were saving money and now the election is hanging in the balance because of it,' she told anchor Logan Byrnes."

Some areas of Boston ran out of ballots in 2008. Penny wise, pound foolish.

6. Foley needs a hot, steaming cup of STFU
Bridgeport ran out of ballots because the REPUKE registrar of voters didn't order enough. Take Foley to St. V's in the...

7. Apparently she couldn't help kicking herself again though
Going on radio to announce that Malloy had won, unofficially.

And that helps how? She's the SOS.

Honestly, I've never witnessed a person self-destruct so thoroughly. We dodged a bullet when she hamstrung all her own attempts at higher office.

That said, YEAH! for Malloy! Great news, and I think he'll hold on to it. It's been a damned long time since we've had a Dem in the Governor's mansion. (Though we had a liberal independent in Weicker).

8. AP withdraws its call for Malloy
Los Angeles Times:

Democrat Dannel Malloy was declared the winner of the dead-heat governor's race Wednesday by the state's top elections official, but the Florida-style election is not over: Republican Tom Foley not only refused to concede Wednesday, he claimed victory.

Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz said that Malloy won by an unofficial margin of 3,100 votes — and that state law allows recounts in statewide races only when the margin is lower than 2,000 votes.

But the Associated Press said late Wednesday night that its vote count now shows Foley with a lead of 8,424 votes over Malloy, with all but 1.5 percent of the precincts counted. Based on that count, the AP said, it was withdrawing its call of Malloy as the winner.

Bysiewicz did not reveal the exact totals for the candidates in each town, saying they would not be available until today.
