Ellmers' lead down by 453 votes; Etheridge to seek recount

Incumbent Democrat Bob Etheridge’s campaign plans to make an announcement this afternoon about the status of the race for the 2nd Congressional District, where challenger Renee Ellmers holds a narrow edge of 1,646 votes out of more than 188,000 counted in unofficial results.

"Congressman Bob Etheridge to issue statement on narrowing of vote margin and status of election," said an e-mail Wednesday afternoon from his campaign to area media.

It’s unclear whether Etheridge will ask for a recount, but a new change in the vote count may have opened the door to that.
