Republican Dino Rossi's prospects of pulling out a win in Washington's U.S. Senate race are dimming.

Democrat Patty Murray has increased her lead -- albeit slightly. New vote totals show she leads by about 25,000 votes. But the trend line appears to favor her.

If Rossi is to win, the daily vote tallies need to start going his way. So far that hasn't happened.

In fact, Democrat Murray continues to have a 60-percent-plus advantage in heavily Democratic King County.

...about the variety of outcomes here in the Evergreen State. The people of this state would have to be idiots to dump Murray in favor of Rossi, so far, so good. As a side issue, I think we should send a big "Thank You" card to Sarah Palin; the house was a lost cause regardless of her input, but without her stirring the pot, the Dems would have lost the Senate as well. Tea Party took steam out of Senate bid

Losses derailed GOP push to seize chamber

WASHINGTON — The anger and energy of the Tea Party movement helped the GOP secure control of the US House on Tuesday, analysts said, but probably hamstrung efforts to take over the Senate.

The Republicans’ haul in the Senate — six seats so far — is impressive, but losses of Tea Party-backed candidates in Delaware, Colorado, and Nevada prevented the party from securing at least a split of the chamber.

The Democrats now hold 50 seats and hope to win one more, with incumbent Senator Patty Murray holding a razor-thin edge as mail-in ballots are counted in Washington. In addition, two independent senators caucus with Democrats.

That advantage might have been more imperiled if the GOP had chosen mainstream Republicans to take on Democrats in those races, analysts said.

...I knew it would be close, but I never worried too much about Rossi. A lot of people here know what a slime-bag he is, and Murray is pretty popular with a large segment of the population. She just never seems like she's BSing or talking down. Rossi got into the race late, made some pretty stupid statements regarding Boeing, and is a poor public speaker. Good. Otherwise, that vote tally might be reversed. I want him to go away. He's entirely too close to winning the 1st time for governor, and now this election. 28,000 votes (maybe more, maybe less) is a thin damn margin to beat him by.

I remember when he lost to Christine Gregoire by the slenderest of recounted margins. He gallantly suggested that Gregoire concede while he had the lead ... then cried "count every vote!" like a big baby until the finally decided that one.

I expect no better from this time around, regardless what Washington Republicans think.

We did better in the Senate than predicted, but we still lost 6. I have a feeling they will predict we lose 10 in two years. We may only lose 4, but that's the Senate. Ehh, we'll see how many Sharon Angles are nominated. :)
