Malloy wins in Connecticut
Source: Connecticut Mirror

BRIDGEPORT - This city finished Connecticut's long and contentious count for governor shortly before dawn today, giving Democrat Dan Malloy a 5,000-vote statewide margin of victory over Republican Tom Foley.

The final tally that Mayor Bill Finch announced this morning in the lobby of the City Hall Annex is more than double the margin Malloy needed to avoid an automatic, statewide recount. The announcement followed an all-night review of the city's returns and a count of 336 ballots that had been set aside Tuesday.

10. All the statewide offices are now held by Democrats
Governor
All five seats in the US Congress
Both senators, though one is the atrocious "Independent Democrat" Joe Lieberman
plus, Lt Governor, Sec. of State, Attorney General & Comptroller

I'm particularly happy that Republic AG candidate Martha Dean lost - she had frivolously sued her Republican primary rival saying they weren't qualified to be AG... then sued Democrat George Jepsen, saying he wasn't qualified. Both cases were dismissed. She was the one that pulled her son out of the prestigious Talcott Mountain Science Academy to send him to rifle shooting school.

13. I think Democrats' dislike of McMahon helped him.
I think many Democrats and D-leaning Independents came out and voted because they were horrified at the prospect of Linda McMahon being our senator. Likewise, I think McDonnell's candidacy helped Democrats in Delaware.

17. McMahon scared off a lot of women, plus
I think a lot of Republicans were excited by her Memorial Day to Labor Day surge in the polls (within 3 points). However, after Labor Day, Blumenthal and the DSCC finally fired back with some tough ads against McMahon that basically tanked her campaign. When her campaign started tanking, I think that took the wind out of the sails of the Republics in the state.

15. The Ballot Shortage Was Phony
It is very interesting that in the Democratic stronghold of Bridgeport, there weren't enough ballots. But in all the pretty little Republican towns around the rest of the state, there were as many ballots as needed.

16. Isn't the Registrar of Voters in Bridgeport a Republican?
I would think that would explain at least part of it.

And, I would think that since Bysiewicz had recommended for everybody to have ballots at 110% of the amount of registered voters, something is fishy on that end as well.

18. They still won't give Dayton the nod and he is 10,000 up.
the republicans want to keep Phewlenty for three months so the newly elected republican majority can pass bills and have Phewlenty sign them. They know Dayton wouldn't and they didn't have enough majority to override his veto.

19. Since CT is a small state, the threshold for recounts is small
only 2,000 votes, I believe, for statewide offices.

Official Governor Results Released: Malloy Wins
FOLEY: WON'T CONCEDE, SAYS 'WE ARE BEING LAUGHED AT' AROUND THE COUNTRY

By JON LENDER and CHRISTOPHER KEATING
8:48 p.m. EDT, November 5, 2010

“...Official numbers released by the Secretary of the State Friday evening show that Democrat Dannel Malloy will be Connecticut's next governor. But Republican Tom Foley still wouldn't concede defeat in the state's closest gubernatorial election in half a century, and didn't rule out the possibility of a lawsuit aimed at a statewide recount….Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz, the state's top election official, released a statement Friday night showing 566,498 votes for Malloy and 560,861 for Foley — a difference of 5,637 votes. "This final result exceeds the 2,000-vote margin necessary under state law to trigger an automatic statewide recount," Bysiewicz said in her statement. "Therefore, there will be no statewide recount."….However, Foley said later he was unmoved by Bysiewicz's pronouncement. "Nothing's changed by her publication of these numbers," he said. "We're not going to take her word for it – let me me put it that way...Foley said that Bysiewicz, a Democrat, mishandled the election results so poorly that "her personal credibility is completely shot."...Foley added that shifting vote totals in the days since Tuesday's election, as well as problems with actual voting, especially in Bridgeport, will require days of examination "so that everybody can be comfortable with the result of the election and that the next governor was legitimately elected...."

It's good that this verycorrupt man---Tom Foley and Bush crony did not win....He was on the staff of Bremer's CPA in Iraq which helped destroy the country and implemented the torture policies at Abuy Ghraib prison.

CT gets sanity and we get Toomey & Corbett.

34. Because we rock! Seriously, I can't imagine ever leaving here.
The land of sanity. Yes, we have Lieberman but this is a state with a lot of loyalty to long time politicians. It helped Blumenthal but I think Joe really ruined the trust of the Dems and independents that still voted for him in 2006. I think he is done in 2012.

38. We do strange (stupid?) things for love.
I remember discussing this with you one other time.

The good news is that my wife has agreed to go to CT on vacation in the spring!!!

I probably shouldn't have said that I could go by myself when she said that, but I just really need to see CT again. 21 years away from it and I still think about it every day.

This is from my FB profile:

I was born in Middletown, CT and after moving to PA as a child I returned to Middletown and spent 8 wonderful years there during the 80's. I am now living in (YUK!!!) Altoona, PA.

That pretty much sums it up.
