Sarah Palin forced to backtrack on Muslim Obama tweet

Sarah Palin has been forced to backtrack after recommending an online comment from a controversial conservative writer that labelled President Barack Obama as a “Taliban Muslim”.

The message about the president was contained in a photograph of the neon board of a New York church which read: “The blood of Jesus against Obama History made 4 Nov 2008 a Taliban Muslim illegally elected President USA: Hussein.”

Ann Coulter, the author and professional provocateur, wrote an entry on her Twitter page next to the photograph saying: “My New Church!” The former Alaska governor in turn listed Miss Coulter’s “tweet” as a “favourite” on her own Twitter account. “Favourites”, according to Twitter, are saved updates that “are just too good to be forgotten”.

When several US media outlets pounced on Mrs Palin’s recommendation, she said it had been made in error. The favourite has since been removed

“I’ve never purposefully 'favourited’ any Tweet,” she wrote in an email to ABC News. “I had to go back to my BlackBerry to even see if such a function was possible. I was travelling to Alaska that day ... it was an obvious accidental 'favouriting’.”
