Edmonton JournalEDMONTON — Two teenagers bolted across traffic on 82nd Street Tuesday evening moments before they were hit by an Edmonton LRT train, witnesses say.
A northbound train hit the boy and girl just before 8:30 p.m. A large group of firefighters, paramedics and police rushed to the scene and spent more than half an hour trying to extricate someone trapped under the train.
One person was pulled from under the middle car on the three-car train at about 9:15 p.m. and loaded onto a stretcher, then taken away in an ambulance.

One woman who lives in a third-floor apartment overlooking the scene said the teenage boy appeared to hold the girl down on the tracks before train hit them.

A friend of mine was on the train. I was downtown trying to catch a bus and saw all the LRT diversion buses going by.
