California State University students are facing more tuition hikes next year.

The CSU Board of Trustees on Wednesday approved a plan to raise tuition for undergraduate, graduate and credential programs by 15.5 percent by next fall. A day earlier the board's finance committee voted 6-1 for the measure.

... Cal State students are protesting the increases in tuition, which rose more than 30 percent over the past year.

1. At this rate, only the wealthiest will be able to send their kids to college.

2. And that would, precisely, be the plan.
We drones don't need to be "over-educated." Just causes restlessness, and problems for our betters.

4. This is so sad. I owe so much to CSU.
I finished at the end of 2005. I feel like a barely made it before the ax was dropped. It's more than doubled since. I, like many if not most of the students, did not even come from a "middle class" background, and had few resources. I, like many students, worked full time. The oligarchy is trying to create a new "Golden Age" for the top 1% while the rest eat shit.

5. My fees for 15 units in the 1970-71 school year - $144.00.
Today $5,076 - (does not reflect the increase next fall).

Outrageous.

8. How about free college including med school....?...
The GI Bill... the real GI Bill that put me thru college... paid for itself in increased tax revenues over the life of the student.

If you want, docs and lawyers could work for the country to pay back their med and law school tuition grants.

But that would be... GASP.. Socialism!

or (shudder) Cuba...to get that...

Along with your Universal Comprehensive Health Care (instead of costly, for-profit Sick Care for the rich)...

----------

Education, Health Care and a decent safety net for living expenses -- marks of a civilized country...

Barbaric USAmerica doesn't even come close...

10. USAmerican "education policy"
Edited on Wed Nov-10-10 06:30 PM by ProudDad
1) you must be rich to get a college education

or

2) you must sink so far in debt that any consideration of using your skills for anyone but the corporate capitalist masters will be impossible...

Not surprising in the Corporate States of America during the "Permanent War Economy(tm)"

The corollary in the Sick Care industry:

1) You must be rich to get Health Care

or

2) If you're going to die, die quickly...

11. Private universities are the best...
It's about $32,000 a year here at ERAU, and professors keep getting laid off so I know all that money sure isn't going to them. There but for the grace of the Yellow Ribbon program and all my modest savings can I barely afford to live off peanut butter sandwiches and Chef Boyardee to go there.

But then, this is in AZ, so I guess I shouldn't be entirely surprised...

12. I'm pretty sure they raised the tuition at U of A up to nearly that amount
Edited on Thu Nov-11-10 12:32 PM by ProudDad
Even for in-state it's unaffordable...

Ah, here it is...

RESIDENT
Living w/Parent and Commuting: $17,092 per year
In UA Housing: $22,382
Tuition Alone: $8,238

(Hmmm, I couldn't afford that -- it's 2/3 of my annual income)...

Non-Resident: in UA Housing - $38,740
Tuition alone: $24,596

Education, only for the rich...
