Incumbent Democratic Rep. Jim Costa has taken a 1,200-vote lead over Republican Andy Vidak in the 20th Congressional District, after trailing Vidak for more than a week since Election Day.

Fresno County this afternoon released its latest vote update, which erased the 145-vote margin Vidak held as of Monday. In that update, Costa gained 3,371 votes and Vidak added 2,026 votes to his tally.

... In a statement released shortly after the vote totals were announced, Costa declared victory, saying: "This has been a hard-fought campaign. It appears that it is now over. I believe our 1,200 vote margin will not only stand up, but will increase as the remaining few ballots are counted."

Vidak, however, said he was not ready to concede.

The GOP was counting on this as a pickup.

1. Will this drop them to 59?
I'd love to knock them out of the 60's.

3. No
The 60 they won were all called already. This would have added to the tally. There are still several other uncalled races.

6. McNerney and Costa are both safe.
No Democratic losses in California.
