UK to develop offensive cyber capability
Source: politics.co.uk

Britain's military will develop offensive cyber capabilities, politics.co.uk understands.

Whitehall sources had indicated at the time of the strategic defence and security review's launch last month that Britain was not prepared to develop offensive cyber operations.

Now politics.co.uk has learned the military is expected to integrate cyberspace capabilities into future offensive operations, however.

-------

But the concept of 'cyberwarfare', in which state-on-state conflict sees military interventions in cyberspace in a bid to cripple the enemy's land, sea and air power, opens up the possibility for offensive developments.

4. This is amusing, a compensation for losing their empire perhaps?
The don't bestride the world oppressing people of color anymore, and aren't a world power, so they turn to computers to develop e-attack power.

6. Countries at their level of power
still need defenses. And nowadays, that means more than armed forces.

Their imperial history is irrelevant.

7. I wonder what the Chinese are compensating for ?
When they use their offensive capabilities to attack US companies.

Maybe being able to being able to fight back in this fashion will give other nations pause of thought.

8. or more to do with the importance of cyber security these days...
Everyday we become more and more reliant on our computer systems and networks... It would be negligent for any country not to do anything about it. Stuff like this keeps us more safe than bombing people thousands of miles away (that most likely makes us less safe in the long run)...
