Obama says US, Asia will benefit from more trade

YOKOHAMA, Japan (AP) - Appealing for broader access to fast-growing markets in Asia, President Barack Obama says the United States is in the Pacific region to stay and that both sides will benefit from stronger trade relationships.

On a mission to help create jobs at home, Obama noted that while U.S. exports to the region have increased by more than 60 percent in the last five years, competition has cut into the U.S. share of trade here.

"We want to change that," Obama declared in a speech Saturday at a regional economic summit.

The president hopes to double U.S. exports within five years and views selling more goods to Asians as one way to help meet that goal while simultaneously creating and sustaining jobs for Americans. India, the first of four countries Obama visited this week and a booming nation to boot, has a population of more than 1 billion people.

1. The big banks and multinationals need to open their purses and start reinvesting here.
That's what's standing in the way of more exports, and more American jobs. Obama needs to start whacking them with that big stick we never see.

same thing so did Daddy Bush, so did Bill Clinton
and we have steadily lost jobs.

If you are company and you can get workers for
pennies a day or you can get workers for let
say, one hundred dollars a day---which are
you going choose. Remember, Reagan changed
policies. Business have a responsiblity only
to their shareholders. They have no obligation
to the worker or a country. With these rules
you are obligated to make as much money as you can
for your shareholder. Yes, you are going
where the labor is cheap to slave standards

Yes all our Presidents promise to open markets.
This may help a handful of companies in a few
states. If these countries had large middle
classes who could afford to buy our products,
that would be fine. We know they do not. Therefore
opening markets will help only a few companies
in a few states.
