Missing teen found; whereabouts of other 3 unknown
Source: CNN

(CNN) -- A 13-year-old Ohio girl who had been missing since Wednesday along with her brother, mother and a family friend was found bound and gagged Sunday in the basement of a Mount Vernon, Ohio, home, authorities said.

Sarah Maynard was taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, said Knox County Sheriff David Barber. Authorities have interviewed her "somewhat," he said, but would not divulge what was said. Police believe she has been held since Wednesday, he said.

The teen was recovered in an early morning raid on the home involving a SWAT team. Matthew Hoffman, 30, who lives in the home, was taken into custody following the raid about 8 a.m. ET, Barber said, and faces a kidnapping charge. Additional charges are expected, Barber said.

Sarah Maynard's mother, Tina Herrmann, 32, remains missing, along with 10-year-old Kody Maynard and Herrmann's friend, 41-year-old Stephanie Sprang.

1. That bodes poorly for the other three, I think.
This will probably be a very ugly story.

4. Right you are, MM...
...what a strange story. However, the fact that one has been found alive does give some hope.

I always wonder, "How does this happen?" I hope and pray the others are found soon, and alive and well.

5. Why am I not surprised that it was in Mt. Vernon.
Went to college there--very odd place.

I hope and pray that this doesn't mean the others are dead but hidden elsewhere.

9. A man was convicted in NH last week of a murder in a town named Mont Vernon
Edited on Mon Nov-15-10 06:36 AM by activa8tr
...where several teens were involved in a home invasion. Only one of the men has so far come to trial, although all suspects are arrested, and two have plea deals for long sentences for their testimony in the trials of the two alleged murderers, (one now convicted and one awaiting trial).

Is the town name "Mont Vernon" in NH simply a coincidence with Mt Vernon, OH?

I wonder. Could this be a "spree killing" in a copy cat way? There was no "abduction" in the NH case. I am hoping I am completely wrong and that this will turn out differently in all ways.

11. What was said on the today show. My wife fears this individual may
have killed the other three so he could "have" the girl.

12. Totally factual account, not really ANYTHING new other than the

finding of the young girl in the home of a 30 year old man, a ner-do-well of some cloudy previous criminal reputation, NOT previously charged with prior murder and abductions.

The girl is in good shape, talking to police, police not revealing what she is saying. That's about it. Not really an in-depth report....thought there might be more.

Your wife might well be right. The abductor is in custody, of course, and "not cooperative".

13. My wife is sick about the issue. I'm sure we all are. But this stuff REALLY gets
her upset.

We do not have cable right now (Too much money for comcast crap.) So this is something we had not heard about until my wife wonder onto the story Sunday.

She and her family and friends are in our thoughts.

17. I'm thinking the girl isn't fully aware of what happend to the others
or they know what happened to the other 3 but this jacka$$ isn't talking to authorities so they have to piece it all together.

Ohio sheriff: 3 still missing may have been killed
(AP) – 16 minutes ago
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (AP) — A sheriff says "there is a possibility" that three people still missing in central Ohio have been killed.
Knox County Sheriff David Barber said at a news conference Monday that authorities still want to remain optimistic that 32-year-old Tina Herrmann, her 10-year-old son Kody and another woman, 41-year-old Stephanie Sprang, are still alive.
Authorities say Herrmann's 13-year-old daughter Sarah Maynard was found bound and gagged in the basement of 30-year-old Matthew Hoffman, who was arrested on a kidnapping charge.
THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

19. The family's actually from Howard, a small town nearby.
It's very close-knit, the kind of town where everyone knows everyone. I'm sure the school community is just devastated. You've never seen school spirit like they have in Howard (I did one of my education field experiences in their elementary school--very good school system with hard-working teachers and administrators who go above and beyond daily).

This just makes me ill. This is bad. Very, very bad.

20. Update...
They found a sedan in the lake but it is non-related.

The suspect is still refusing to talk.

I wish reality was like the show "The Shield" right now. Just this one time.
