Obama, Dems to meet on DREAM Act

Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), Rep. Nydia Velasquez (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) will meet with President Barack Obama Tuesday afternoon to talk about the chances of getting comprehensive immigration reform or the DREAM Act passed in the lame duck session, a House Democratic source said.

Immigration advocates want to know how much the White House supports a vote on either bill in the next few weeks. Menendez said on a conference call with reporters Monday that the White House is “ready and willing” to talk about immigration.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) could bring the DREAM Act to the floor as early as this week. SNIP....

no matter what the issue is

one side need only win once to prevail

the other side has to win every time or they lose

what if this tactic were used on another issue you didnt agree with?

In my opinion it needs to be brought up again and again until it gets a vote.
If we give up every time the republicans vote against cloture then none of the bills would ever make it to the floor for a vote.

Harry Reid Vows DREAM Act Vote In Lame Duck Session

WASHINGTON -- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) made good on a campaign promise Wednesday afternoon, vowing to bring the DREAM Act to the Senate floor for a vote during the lame-duck session. The bill would create a pathway to citizenship for children of undocumented immigrants who enlist in the military or enroll in college. Opponents charge that it is too broad and would encourage the flow of labor across the border.

"I will move the DREAM Act as a standalone bill in the lame duck. It's good for the economy & Pentagon says good for natl security," Reid tweeted Wednesday evening. A Reid spokesman said that no date had been set for a vote, but that Reid had been speaking to his Democratic colleagues throughout the week about holding the vote.
