Lisa Murkowski Defeats Joe Miller In 2010 Alaska Senate Race

JUNEAU, Alaska — Sen. Lisa Murkowski has become the first Senate candidate in more than 50 years to win a write-in campaign.

Murkowski emerged victorious after a painstaking, two-week count of write-in ballots showed she has overtaken over tea party rival Joe Miller.

Her victory became clear when Alaska election officials confirmed they had only about 700 votes left to count, putting Murkowski in safe territory to win re-election.

Murkowski has a lead of about 10,000 votes, a total that includes 8,153 ballots in which Miller observers challenged over things like misspellings, extra words or legibility issues.

Although I LOATHE Murkowski, don't you enjoy seeing Palin humiliated? She did her goddamned best to defeat Murkowski, and this just shows that Palin doesn't have the influence in AK that she obviously thinks she does.

As I said, Murkowski is a sow, but Palin is far, far worse. As much as I hate Murkowski, it is so much fun to see Sarah Palin LOSE!!!!!!! :) :) :)

11. The President might try to reach out to her. The GOP did her no favors. The teabaggers will burn out

soon. And their congressmen will be up for grabs in at least some issues: Patriot act and Homeland Security are possibilities. A lot of Republicans, including Ron Paul were more likely to vote against this stuff than most Democrats, including Sen Clinton, Sen Biden. If the President can't afford to face risk now, when will he able to lose less? Its not over. President Clinton had an amazing last six years, including winning back some seats, pays off the deficit and has a positive credit and held high approval even during the most lurid of the impeachment that he gave impetus to by lieing under oath(perjury!) when he knew the country would overwhelmingly forgive him - which they did only he lost his law license over it as a sitting President. Bill and Dick Nixon both risked everything at bad odds over nothing.

A lot of the grumble I hear regarding Republican elected officials are extreme to the irrational. This is not about picking up all the marbles. This is about doing what Americans are known for: consensus and unity. Sounding like them just because they sound like this is no defense and sounds like two fifth-graders. We are smarter than that at least, aren't we? There are Republican and Democratic sensibilities to solve problems we all or at least the majority of us know is real: healthcare, the wars, social security, to some degree the deficit, but we can work together to come to some sort of plan. We always have. Nobodies ever had the whole bag of marbles very long with some exception for wars.

I think this teabagger crap has woken a lot of slow moving progressive Republicans up. We feel like 'Conservative' has over ridden Republican. We certainly have been embarrassed by Boehner, McConnell, Issa, and on and on. We're certainly ashamed at how presidential Obama, Kerry and Clinton were compared to W, Dole, McCain. I admit I voted for W the first time and mostly because Gore gave me no hint of really wanting it. But I voted for Kerry and I voted for Obama with NO reservations except on the war policy. We need to be out NOW.

Boehner et al are the creatures of very wealthy and very, very old GOP. They are starting to die out. The President has two years to turn it around and if he gets the people fired up by making the solutions ours not congress, all this right tilt will end.

The victory completes a remarkable comeback for the Republican after her humiliating loss in the GOP primary to Joe Miller.

Her victory became clear when Alaska election officials confirmed they had only about 700 votes left to count, putting Murkowski in safe territory to win re-election. Murkowski is flying back from Washington to Alaska to make an "exciting announcement" to supporters Wednesday, proclaiming in an e-mail that the campaign "made history."

Murkowski has a lead of about 10,000 votes, a total that includes 8,153 ballots in which Miller observers challenged over things like misspellings, extra words or legibility issues.
