Nobel Committee May Not Hand Over Peace Prize
Edited on Thu Nov-18-10 09:44 AM by harvey007
Source: NY Times

LONDON — The Nobel Peace Prize committee said on Thursday that a central part of the 2010 award presentation in Oslo next month would likely be postponed because neither the winner, the imprisoned Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo, nor family members under official restriction in China are able to attend.

...

The Chinese authorities displayed their opposition to the award last week when two prominent legal scholars and rights advocates bound for an international law conference in London were blocked from leaving China on vague charges that their departure might endanger national security, the scholars said at the time.

The two rights advocates, Mo Shaoping and He Weifang, said they suspected that the government feared that they would try to attend the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo.

Very sad, but typical when a autotharian State, as China is, is trying it best to use it power to do what they want to do, even if it like this, deny either the imprisoned Chinese dissent Liu Xiaobo or any familiy member to be given the Nobel Prize.. But it also shows for the world what parts of China is, specially the official one, and this might came back and bite the mighty chinese in their asses someday soon... It would posible be more easy for them, to let the prize be given, and then try to forget the whole case in a few months.. Who rembember was the nobel prize laurate last year (I do but Im a geek;) )
