Leo Berman, Texas State Legislator, Introduces 'Birther' Bill
Source: Huffington Post

Texas State Representative Leo Berman (R) furthered his campaign against President Obama Tuesday, a man that he has before characterized as "God's punishment on us," by introducing a bill that would require future presidential and vice-presidential candidates to produce "the original birth certificate indicating that the person is a natural-born United States citizen" to the Texas secretary of state.

Berman told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal that the bill, House Bill 295, is a compulsory step to take in order to correct an alleged gap in the law that allowed Barack Obama, who he believes could be foreign-born, to run for president.

"This bill is necessary because we have a president whom the American people don't know whether he was born in Kenya or some other place," Berman told the Avalanche-Journal. "If you are running for president or vice president, you've got to show here in Texas that you were born in the United States and the birth certificate is your proof."

Legislators in Arizona added an amendment with similar intent to a bill earlier this year, a measure that ended up being passed by the state House. Florida, Missouri, and Oklahoma also tackled kindred legislation, though all of them failed due to insufficient support. With the recent wave elections rippling through state legislatures, however, this is a pursuit that could meet a different fate in future sessions.

1. Dems should put an amendment on Unca Leo's bill
to make it a qualification to hold any office in the US that a person must be able to read and understand such birth certificates.
That should end Uncle Leo's career.

11. Absolutely.
Make all Congressional candidates pass a test, and have a full mental health exam.

7. The right-wingers will be blown out of the water sooner than they think.
Texas will be a progressive stronghold. The Latino electorate will surge forward, in alliance with Black voters and white progressives, and transform that cesspool of a state into something defensible. Texas will be the new California. 2010 was their last hurrah.

But as a card carrying cynic, I gotta say, I doubt it.

...

And what the hell is he saluting in that pic. If it's the flag, then he should have his head gear off, and he shouldn't salute unless he is military. If he's a civilian citizen then his hand should be over his heart. Non citizens should do neither and just stand respectfully (I do this). So what the heck is he saluting and WTF is he wearing that stupid hat while doing it?

13. The Mexican American vote put Colorado in contention
It is now a swing state. The American Southwest is going to become the swing state battleground to supplant the South and the Midwest.

10. For the record, this guy and his birther friends are asshats, but...
let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater here. This might not be a completely bad law. (Probably unconstitutional, but I'll leave that to others.)

First, it would once and forever more remove this particular "weapon" from the arsenals of anti-democratic factions. As it could not be applied retroactively, there would be no opportunity to "humiliate" the current sitting President.

Secondly, if implemented, it would force any candidate seeking to be on the ballot to actually physically visit every state where it is applied at least once. That wouldn't be so bad.

17. He is NOT in military uniform: Therefore, if he is saluting the US Flag,
He should be holding that cowboy hat over his heart with his right hand.

Pretty sure that is correct.
