Sen. Lisa Murkowski Tells Local TV She Will Vote For Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell Repeal
Source: Wonk Room

this afternoon, during an interview with KTV’s Matt Felling in Alaska, Murkowski said that she would “not vote against a bill that had that repeal in it.”

Felling appeared on CNN this afternoon to preview the interview:

FELLING: And then I pursued the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell vote because that’s something that she’s been very reluctant to talk about because she wanted to hear from the troops and kick the can down the road. And then today she said, listen there have been leaks out of this poll inside the Pentagon, saying the troops are fine with it being repealed and you know, we are a different sort of warfare there aren’t trenches there aren’t fox holes anymore, I would not vote against a bill that had that repeal in it. And that’s honestly the first time she came swinging on that topic too.

3. Wow .. really be sure to watch the video - looks like Murkowski may now be more indie
Matt Felling says that he is seeing a 'different' Lisa Murkowski with a 'different' tone to reach across the isle.
Also he says that she's excited to work with Democrat Sen. Harkin on a child nutrition bill.

7. Doubtful
I heard her on tv today stating, in a roundabout way, that she would vote to repeal the health care bill.

4. Seems the elections made her think
Especially about loyalty to dishonest policy, just to kiss party wonks asses.

It really isn't worth it, is it Sen. Murkowski?

Come over to the sanity!

5. In other words, any previous opposition she might have had was purely political calculation.

6. No, not really. If you read what Felling says she said up in the OP you'll see why she changed ....
her mind on the issue.

9. Think she would feel the same if she'd won her GOP primary, but just barely?

8. Sometimes you have to support the heinous...
to move forward. If that's all she does, it is worth having her in office. God knows some of our own Dems wouldn't do as much.

10. Miller would have voted against the repeal, so I'm thrilled she beat his ass ....
besides I love it that Palin's butt-boy Miller lost :)
It makes me smile every time I think about it :)

11. Yaay... Rachel Maddow is covering Murkowski :)
Edited on Thu Nov-18-10 09:08 PM by Tx4obama
So Murkowski's office says that she'll vote for repeal if the report study shows that the repeal will NOT 1)hurt morale 2)hurt recruitment 3) --- I forget what number three was -

Edited to add:
Maddow said that unconfirmed reports are saying Sen. Ensign may vote for repeal too.

13. Wow, look who's getting all Mavericky now
Slap Palin. Slap Mitch McConnell. Slap all the GOP assholes that turned a shoulder away from her.

She's not changing her stripes, that's for sure, but this is a cool development, and a slick political move that won't cause her much blowback. She just put a whole bunch of people on notice. Business as usual. NOT.
