Perry: Troops May Be Needed In Mexico
Source: MSNBC / Politico

Texas Gov. Rick Perry said the United States should consider deploying military forces into Mexico to stem the drug-related violence afflicting the border region.

Perry, the incoming chairman of the Republican Governors Association, told MSNBC on Thursday morning that while Mexico would “obviously” have to approve any American assistance, military might is needed to defeat the drug cartels that have stymied Mexican authorities. And he pegged decreased border violence as a prerequisite for any successful immigration reform push in Washington.

2. This is insane
These idiots want less government, but wait, we should send the military into Mexico.
Perhaps he should just call out the Texas National Guard and he can lead them down there himself.

29. It's typical repub drivel
They hate big government, they hat spending. But that's only when those resources are spent on other people.
If supporters of Rick "Perfect Hair" Perry love liberty and guns so much, they should have no problem leading the attack on their own.

He should just hire Jerkwater to go in and do his murdering for him. After all, everybody knows things are best done in the private sector. Surely he's not trying to defile himself with some of that big government federal money.

Yes, it is safe as long as you stay on the American side. But, how long will that last?

35. mexico's "crime problem" is a DIRECT result of our drug policies
and of OUR drug use. One simple act of legalization would wipe out a huge part of the WHOLE problem.

30. not as crazy as it may seem
Edited on Fri Nov-19-10 11:04 AM by bossy22
its alot better than afganistan/iraq. Over the last few years its been shown that the mexican military has been almost ineffectual at best at controlling these cartels (many times the military exacerbates the problem since officers are on the cartel payroll). If the situation continues to deteriorate and starts to spill over the border in greater frequency, Mexico may have no choice to ask for U.S. assitence. The U.S. would be smart to insist as well since the problem in mexico would/is becoming a problem in the U.S.- therefore we have a direct interest in the matter

in other words, if mexico can't clean up their own house than we may have to clean it up for them

37. we are already "assisting" them
do you have any idea how much drug war funding we give them? any idea how much "product" we import? demand will always be met if there is profit, and the higher the risk the more dangerous it becomes for everybody, including innocent bystanders

the whole thing would crumble if the US wasn't so hypocritical about "drugs"
