Political divide between coasts and Midwest deepening, midterm election analysis shows

Results from November's midterm elections have exposed a deepening political divide between cities on the coasts and the less-dense areas in the middle of the country.

The Republican Party's big gains in the House came largely from districts that were older, less diverse and less educated than the nation as a whole. Democrats kept their big majorities in the cities.

That's a contrast to the last GOP wave in 1994, when Republicans' share of the vote was consistent inside and outside metropolitan areas, according to a Washington Post analysis. That year, Republicans captured seats in a broader array of places.

The analysis, based on a review of the House vote in counties across the country in both years, has good and bad news for both parties.

Every vote was struggled for and a lot of money was spent. Yes, the Dems put up a lot of $$ too for counter-ads. Had to. But the main effort was getting absentee ballots and we did better than the repugs.

Thing is, with that vote, it is hard to tell. All the races were close, and considering that the issue was on the back of the ballot . . . We see here, as elsewhere, the Talibag vote is a dependable 40%. Add in lower turnout due to a mid-term, and that the pro-retention side did not mount an effort, an outlier result is possible.

23. I am going to do an analysis of how the votes went

in the the three counties where we had a state senate race but the recount is still going on and, though I am sure our candidate won, we will not know until Friday. But then will know definitely. I would like to find out what messages were most efficiently delivered. I knew we were going to lose Culver because he made no effort to work with Labor or even to have press conferences.

there`s not a hell of a lot of hope. people are afraid and the president offered no comfort. so why in the hell would the democrats appeal to the "the great unwashed" or as the post said "uneducated".
the leadership in washington dc abandoned the party out here and they paid the price. dean was thrown under the bus by obama and rahm and that cost the party the house. if obama does`t understand who put him in the whitehouse he`ll be a one hit wonder and we`ll be fucked even worse than we are now.

Hell, even in a county in Kentucky (!), a teabagger referendum lost big.

And the Democratic congressman in Louisville won big.
